I've been reading about Amex and their long memory for charge offs. I have always wanted an Amex card and was approved in 6/2018! I got in a financial jam, had a two payments returned in 12/18 and Amex closed my account. I ended with a 2k charge-off. I was devastated!
After reading here in the forums I called Amex after I was in a better financial position and paid the charge off in full. Was offered and accepted the Amex Optima with a $600 limit in 3/19. I've used the Amex Optima card religiously each month and never missed a payment. Still currently have it but would like to try for a regular Amex again. I've read you can't get a regular Amex while currently having a Optima card. Do you think it's better to close the Amex Optima card and apply directly for a regular Amex or call someone at Amex?
Thanks!

You can keep the card open until you need to make room for a new one. You're eligible to apply for a regular card after 12 months.
