Amex Platinum Travel credit: Airfare if super cheap

Fellow FICOers - this has been mentioned a few times but wanted to send updated DPs that my Amex Platinum travel credit just covered my 10.99$ airfare on Frontier.

Like I said I know this concept may not be new but this has happend to me a few times at varying amounts (maybe all less than 50$ if I remember correctly.

Hope everyone is healthy and safe!

Very dependent on the airline and how it codes.  That is one cheap airfare, though!

Delta for example won't trigger the credit no matter how cheap it is if it's an actual 006 airfare transaction.   The remainder of any fare partially paid with a gift card or voucher will trigger the credit (for now), as will taxes on award fares.

@K-in-Boston  I wasn't aware of that with Delta, I don't fly them much but I will pass it along to the Player 2, she loves Delta. Thanks!

@wasCB14 It was actually a 1 way PHX to DEN. I've not been traveling much, for obvious reasons, but I've been exploring some 1 ways around the west to and from various airports. I'm alone in my house most of the time so I essentially quarantine before these trips. We'll see what I can get 1 way out of DEN somewhere.

Frontier is an ultra low cost airline, like Spirit without all of the luxuries or any guarantee that your return flight (which oops is the last of the season, so they are happy to rebook you on the next flight in March) won't be canceled.   Service reviews are generally good, but IRROPS for them unfortunately often become headlines and a "how not to do customer service" tutorial.  The last one I read had them promising to issue $400 travel vouchers in 30 days when they reached end of the season for a route, and passengers' only option was to book Y fares on legacy airlines for $1200+.

For those prices, I can certainly see why they're tempting.  I wouldn't discourage anyone from flying them if they are getting a good deal, but definitely have a plan B.

Agree with all of this. I think they are bearable. I have flown many sub $100 RT flights between Austin & SNA. Sometimes sub $50-$60 with fees included.

I agree as well, as long as folks keep their expectations for a sub 100$ fare, I've had pretty good luck with the customer service, etc.

Re: Amex Platinum Travel credit: Airfare if super cheap

I've had the credit trigger on Alaska and Southwest add/collects and fares under $100. Sometimes for Alaska you have to wait a couple of weeks and then ask in chat.

Does the $10.99 include a seat? Or do you have to sit in cargo? 😝

Re: Amex Platinum Travel credit: Airfare if super cheap

I know they're a LCC and probably charge extra fees for everything, but I would have thought they'd cut capacity and keep prices (relatively) high like other airlines are doing, rather than charge so little.
