Amex Platinum Upgrade - Can I keep the Gold?

Hi - wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Gold to Platinum upgrade and kept the Gold?  Is it safe to assume they automatically close the gold as part of the transaction?  I'd like to keep both.

Yes, you only have 1 card so unless you apply for the platinum, you can have either the gold or upgrade to the platinum

You probably have to apply for a new card. But you can have gold authorized cards on your platinum. Call and find out. Most likely they will give you a new account and platinum card.

@Red1Blue-- note that those are not = the gold amex charge card

It's basically a free platinum AU card with a limited subset of benefits.

You're already willing to hold both a Gold and a Platinum, so why not just apply for the Platinum and collect the SUB? 

Keep the Gold.

Troll the usual affiliate sites looking for an enhanced SUB offer on the Platinum.   If you apply using one of their links AMEX will still honor the enhanced SUB (assuming you don't get the No SUB For You, Click Yes If You Still Want To Apply popup) if you meet the spend 

Meet the spend requirement, collect the SUB.
