Re: Amex Retention Offers

800 452 3945  Direct number to retention department.

You are already at retention and they already know why you are calling.   Nothing much to explain.   I assume the offer is based on past spending....again assume not a fact.

Re: Amex Retention Offers

I have the PRG and Bonvoy open for a little over a year and it renewed in Feb. Do you think I can still try a retention call?

You can try. Keep in mind your AF money is gone if you cancel (more than 30 days since AF posted) and a PC to Green would only get some of it back. Also, you'd miss your monthly dining credits and your 2021 $100 airfare extras credit. You might be in a better position in Feb/Mar.

Most people call when the AF posts, and find an account can only get an offer once every two years. While it's a gamble either way, in your shoes I'd probably wait until Feb/Mar and try then. But it is also possible you'd get a great offer now.

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

I might try this soon. My Hilton Aspire & Delta Platinum both have their anniversary July 8th. I get tremendous value from the Hilton but with not too much spend. I'm getting no value from the Delta and no spend. Is it best to call before my anniversary or after? I'll probably downgrade the Delta Platinum if I have no luck there.

Just an update on my attempts at a Retention offer for my Hilton Aspire and Delta Platinum cards. As I mentioned before I'm already comfortable keeping my Aspire given the benefits and adjustments they made, however the Delta Platinum was one I've been on the fence about.

  • Hilton Aspire: No Retentions Offered, however the agent was really stressing the fact that "offers can change at any time" and suggested I may want to try again within the next month.

  • Delta SkyMiles Platinum: No Retentions Offered. I was aware of the $50 appreciation credit I'd be receiving regardless, but what I was unaware of is that my Annual Fee posting as $195 instead of the new AF of $250 wasn't in fact the credit, and I will still be receiving a $50 credit effectively giving me an annual fee of $145 for the next year. Apparently all first year renewals are still receiving the lower annual fee, even though I previously had the card as the Gold version and this was an upgrade.

This does make the decision of keeping the card more easy for me. I was only considering downgrading the card to the Gold version with $95 AF because I didn't want to lose out on the SUB for the Blue version, but for only $50 more I'll likely keep the Platinum version.

She also mentioned that my current Companion Certificate is being extended 6 months but that really didn't mean much to me since I highly doubt I'm traveling even in the next year.

I'll continue trying for a Retention Offer, especially since the one agent seemed to be emphasizing that the offers may change (i.e. I may receive an offer) if I try calling back during these 30 days, however with the Aspire I'm definitely keeping it, and for only $50 more than what my alternative would be, I'm fairly comfortable keeping the Delta Skymiles Platinum open as well. Perhaps next year will be my year for real Retention Offers on these cards.
