Congrats, hopefully it works again next year
How many gift cards can you use on a single transaction at Southwest or AA?
With Delta we are limited to three Gift Card slots in the payment options.
I was able to call Delta and book a round-trip itinerary using 5 $50 Delta gift cards. Your mileage may vary, of course, but I was happy to find that I could use more than 3 gift cards by speaking to a rep.
How large of a SW card can you buy and still get the amex credit? I'd rather do a single $200 card then go to delta and do a bunch of $50 cards which won't even cover the airfares I need if they don't let me use more than three at a time. Also I read that you can't even use delta giftcrads to buy comfort seats etc. Southwest fares seem to be a lot cheaper than Delta as well, although I am not thrilled with the availble southwest routes. I was thinking I could use a SW card to fly roundtrip NY-Orlando or maybe to dominican republic or mexico city. Southwest isn't really ideal for me but if its easier to redeem giftcards etc it might be the route I need to go.

Do you mean using gift cards to upgrade to Comfort+ (W) fares? That, I don't know. However, if you're buying a ticket in Comfort+ or First you absolutely can, and it's usually cheaper than upgrading later. If you know you want to fly in Comfort+, I recommend you buy Comfort+ from the get-go and slap on any gift cards you want to use then.

I dunno I guess maybe you can if you buy it outright, but you can't buy an upgrade apparently. Per Delta's own terms "They may not be used for any additional fees (including baggage fees) or for any other products or services (including upgrades, in-flight purchases, premium seating, mileage booster, SkyMiles Cruises, cargo, hotel stays, or car rentals).
