The key phrase in the article is accounts, not cards.  If you are spending money with Amex there's nothing there of concern if you have cards that are not getting spend.  I haven't used my Blue card since 2016 (early 2016 at that); if they haven't closed it at this point I don't see it happening.

I was thinking the same thing, given the phrase "inactive card members".

Good catch, I often forget we're not "typical" cardholders who only have one card per FI.

Re: Amex is closing inactive accounts

I've had three AmEx cards in my sock drawer for over a year...maybe two years for one of them. Glad I saw this. I recently dusted off my Discover cards to give them some action, and I'll do the same for AmEx. Wound up going to my account page and upgrading Blue Cash to Preferred and shifting some of my Everyday's credit over to that account. I have a Hilton card that they can gladly close. Not sure what I was thinking with that one. That leaves my Everyday, which I got for a BT and haven't used since. It still has a $17k credit line that I'd hate to lose. Maybe I need to shop for another AmEx card that would be more useful and shift the rest of the Everyday's credit to that card. Hmmm
