In August, Amex sent me an offer where, if I signed up for their Preferred Rewards Gold Card with no annual fee for the first year, they would give me 50,000 membership rewards points. I went ahead and signed up – the points are worth $500 and I can cancel the card at the end of the year and not pay an annual fee. Then, in September, they sent me another offer; If I signed up for the Premier Rewards Gold with no annual fee for the first year, they would give me 25,000 membership rewards points on my first purchase and another 25,000 if I charge $10,000 in six months.
I decided to go for the second offer but was initially declined since I already had a Gold Card. After some time on the phone with their customer service, I was told that, if I cancelled the first Gold Card and reapplied, they would honor the deal. It was a second hard pull on my credit report but I went ahead with it and was approved. Yesterday I received an offer in the mail to apply for the Preferred Rewards Gold Card with no annual fee for the first year and they will give me another 50,000 MR points. I will probably go ahead and go for it despite another hard pull. My Fakos are in the 780 to 800 range and I don’t think that I will be applying for additional credit at this time plus it’s a free $500.
Did you redeem any of those points yet? Are you cashing them in before app'ing for another card? Just wondering.
(BTW, I get a kick out of your member name, very cool!)
Thanks, you answered my concern. I thought you'd have a risk of them backing out those points because of a product change.
Sounds like you're doing great! Congrats!
