Hi,
I am planning on applying for Amex products very soon, I read somewhere that we can apply for 1 revolver and 1 charge card with 1 pull. is it true? if yes, then how does it works? also, if possible please give the list of Amex credit cards and charge cards and what do you recommed me?
my scores are in 740s
thank you
Welcome to the forums. If one of your 740s scores is an Experian FICO 08, you should have no problem being approved for any American Express card. The best card/cards is/are going to depend on the types of rewards (cash back, Membership Rewards, airline miles, or hotel points) you want back, what you spend money on, how much you're able to spend, etc. If you are getting a charge card, keep in mind that they earn Membership Rewards, so they would not pair well with one of the cash back cards. There's usually no issue in being approved for a charge card and a revolving card the same day and most consumers these days report not receiving HPs on subsequent applications whether they are the same day or 20 years later. The complete list of personal cards can be found here:
This is not an uncommon question! They certainly have an enviable brand when people are convinced they need one before examining any of the products.
To start with: How often do you fly? Do you have a favored airline? Do you stay in Hilton or Marriott/Ritz/Starwood properties a lot? Or would you just prefer cash back?
How much might you spend across all cards in a year? This question may be a bit personal and you don't have to answer, but it will help us guide you.
My personal favorite Amex revolvers are the Cash Magnet and the Blue Cash Preferred - I really like the cash back. I pay the annual fee for the Preferred - but I get 6% back for groceries. And I LOVE the 0% APR that they extended for the Cash Magnet - through some time in 2020. These are my favorite cards. However, I do have 6 Amex cards: Cash Magnet, Amex EveryDay, Blue Cash Preferred, Green Card, Gold Delta Sky Miles, and Hilton Honors. I love the "Member Since 1982" on a couple of the cards!
@CGeorge a little off topic, but if you request a replacement card, the newer ones will also have Member Since 1982 (which is awesome). There is (was?) a quirk that the first card sent on new accounts often has the year you opened that account, but any subsequent cards will have the correct Member Since date. The Delta cards DW and I picked up a few months back all had the correct dates, but my SPG in 2017 for example had Member Since 17 while DW's AU card had 03 (when I first added her as an AU on my older cards).
Thanks @K-in-Boston!

its hard to make a recommendation for you becaue we don't know your spending habit. You may have to sit down, crunch numbers and see which one works for you. There is a great tool you can use https://www.thepointcalculator.com/Credit-Card-Comparison-Tool
Absolutely right. YOUR spending habits are one of the most important factor. As for me, I had the Gold charge cards - but that just didn't fit into my life - I switched off to the Green card. Every person is different.
