Hi,
I received a targeted Amex offer in the mail for the Premier Gold card. The offer is 50K membership rewards points with annual fee waived first year. I'm trying to understand if this offer is worth a hard pull. I don't normally travel much so I prefer cash or gift card redemption, not sure how well those amex points would work out for that.
Also, I don't like annual fee cards so I'd probably convert it to something else within a year.
Thanks in advance!

If you don't travel then i dont think its worth it and yes it will be an HP. Before you make your decisio i would do some research on MR points. Short version they are good for travel , for cash or gc they are worth about half an cent each.

You're gritting your teeth on this posting, aren't you?
50k is pretty average bonus offer for this. I would wait for 75k or 100k offer since you can only get 1 per lifetime with personal accts.
50k offer is great for the PRG, though we all chase the 100k platinum offer.
I got the 25k PRG offer, and I'm jealous now.

I have given up on my pursuit for the 50k offer. I don't mind other people getting that offer, it is what it is EDP is an better fit for me anyways. PRG is just for signup bonus

You should probably not app this card. I did not see even an inkling of positive statements in your description, and as AF goes, PRG is nosebleed territory. So best not to, IMO. AMEX has the Blue Cash, no AF, cash back, you should look into that, and if you want to play with it as a charge card, just PIF every month and then at the anniversary, you have another $175 in your pocket that you didn't have to pay that year for the PRG. Plus, with the BC you can play with the 3X CLI periodically.

Don't just repond to offers and seek the out the cards that suit you.
@Anonymous wrote:I'm trying to understand if this offer is worth a hard pull.
If it was universally worth a pull or universally not worth the pull then either everyone would have it or no one would have it. Worth, as with any matter, is always subjective. You need to research the MR program to see if it suits you. In order to maximize MR point value you need to be able to make use of the transfer partners. You also need to look at the redemption rates for the partners to see if you could redeem within a reasonable (up to you to determine what that means) timeframe.

Not well -- see above. If you want cash back then find a suitable cash back card. Again, use your needs/wants to narrow down the card options versus selecting a card and then seeing if it fits -- i.e. don't put the cart before the horse.
Travel frequency doesn't really help in determining suitability of a card. For example, a person could travel only once a year and find a travel card beneficial if the person can rack up enough rewards each year to maximize rewards value with travel rewards. It is a bit more complex to do the math for determining travel reward value though and the math for cash back is much more straightforward.

Make sure you're considering total cost/benefit versus simply avoiding AF's. My largest rewards come from cards with AF's but my spend is probably entirely different from your own. Run the numbers when doing your research and when trying to make a decision.
Also, you can only PC an AmEx charge card to another charge card. There are no AmEx charge cards with no AF.
