Amex once in a lifetime question

So I'm aware of the famous amex once in a lifetime sub for each card but what if you didn't spend enough to complete the sub?   I got my gold card during the pandemic and didn't use it very much, So I guess my question is if I someday close that card and app for it again am I still eligible for the sub?

Re: Amex once in a lifetime question

Don't know but as an ex programmer my guess is the

right hand does not know or care what the left hand is doing.

It probably just looks up history by you and what card.

I would say you are out of luck.

But I am just guessing.     Smiley Wink

Re: Amex once in a lifetime question

The opportunity for the bonus on Gold is gone. You would not be currently eligible for the SUB.

However...

There are a few scattered, vague reports that customers have been eligible for a second bonus on the same card after about 7 years. Again, I emphasize there is no 100% clear and established rule about this.

There have been many reports of people getting a Platinum or Green with a SUB and then PCing to Gold after a year.

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

Re: Amex once in a lifetime question

I would give them a call and see what they say... seems like you've got a pretty legitimate reason for not hitting the spend.  I mean, the last 3 years is a great excuse for just about anything.  Smiley Wink

Re: Amex once in a lifetime question

I'm on my 4th sub for the Gold Card. The prior 3 they waived the annual feel, but not this time around.

I'll still take the 75k offer. Each time I cancelled and within 2 years received a new offer.
