While it may well be the case, not sure why so many are saying for certain "You did miss payments".    If OP was like some here, the payment could be made very early, and, once returned, there could still be time to make an on time payment.    Not so likely, but...!

Because the OP essentially said he did!

"I had a few returned payments due to me being lazy and not transferring money to the proper account on time, this caused me to receive a pre set limit. In 2020, fast forward too late 2021 I had another returned payment and they canceled my card."

That's what I'm thinking too, a returned payment is not necessarily late. He still could've made a payment after that right?

I had an American Express platinum since 2018, I spent about 400k on it in the 4 years I had it, I never missed a single payment. I had a few returned payments due to me being lazy and not transferring money to the proper account on time, this caused me to receive a pre set limit. In 2020, fast forward too late 2021 I had another returned payment and they canceled my card.

I have never missed a payment and I paid off the entire balance on the card after it was canceled. I tried to apply for another American Express card the day after I cleared the balance and I have no hard pull on my credit.

How long will I be black listed for something like this?

Not sure why many people stress never missing a single payment  yet casually announce they had returned payments due to laziness. For future reference, returned payments are way worse than a missed payment. Missed payments may be explained in many cases but returned payments tell a lender there was no money to pay the bill. Its usaually enough for one returned payment to cause significant damage with a lender but multiple is definetly not a good thing to happen . Just ask oneself, would you lend to someone who has shown the inabilty to have proper funds available for the service they provide? Forget about the BL, work on not letting that happen again. Just my opinion.

When a bank reduces your credit limit and then CANCELS your card due to returned payments, I think it's safe to say that the returned payments negatively impacted the account! Whether the OP's were technically late or not, I don't know, but I'm guessing they were. Besides, from what I've read returned payments are even worse than late payments.

Agreed. I am a little over 60 years old. In my life I never bounced a check, never had a payment returned, never paid anything late. If I can do it anyone can. You just have to have the mindset to do it. I was sooo broke back in my college days. I didn't have $5 for gas for the car so I stayed home. But I made sure my car loan payment was paid on time even though I did not have any gas to drive it anywhereSmiley Happy. Enough said.

Thanks

Re: Amex possible black list ?

Taking OP at his word about "being lazy" and not funding his payment account, at a minimum he was being cavalier with Amex. Of all the companies out there NOT to be cavalier with, I'd say Amex is right up there close to the top. Imo, the only thing nice or understanding about them is their customer service agents. I'm surprised the company didn't whup OP upsida his head the second time he bounced a payment on them.

I do quite a bit of business with Amex between the EDP, the Gold, and the Delta Reserve. I'm deep into 6 figures point-wise. But I'm wary, and a little afraid - wary, because I've read enough about them shooting first and asking questions later - no, make that never asking questions, just shooting first. Afraid - because you never know what mistake you will make - not proofing a new bank number, not double-triple checking a balance, etc.

I would never rely on Amex totally or even near that. You want sympathy, go with Navy.

Maybe OP bounced a couple of payments to Amex and figured it was no big deal (until it was), but these are really the wrong people to mess with.

Amex cancel for returned payments.

Has anyone has Amex cancel a card for returned payments ? How long did it take to get another card from them?

Congrats on the Macy's card.  However, that card only uses the AMEX payment network, and is backed by Citibank.

@Anonymous  I've merged your threads, there is absolutely no need to start another thread on the same issue, it won't change the answers.
