Amex premium rental coverage?

I am looking at national prices as an emerald Executive member and noticed it was cheaper to book a luxury car at the Preimum price than book a Full size at a mid size price.

Mid Size: $250 for the week

Full size: $290

Premium : $212

I get an upgrade with membership so  if I book Full I get mid size pricing  and so forth. I got Supplemental Liability Insurance but declined LDW which is the same as CDW so I am wondering I am right Amex premium rental coverage covers Luxury cars right? With taxes and Supplemental Liability Insurance the rental will cost me $350 but with LDW from National it would cost me $450 if I chose to add it on. Also which other cards would cover luxury cars or am i better off just going with a Full size or Premium car from the Asile they offer with Emerald executive?

Re: Amex premium rental coverage?

Do you have the CSP or just the Sapphire?  Are you definitely wanting primary coverage?

That's one reason why I use it but check the terms to confirm that the specific vehicle would be covered and/or the specific limitations.  I don't recall the details off the top of my head.

I closed my CSP and as of right now I don't have any card that offers primary coverage. As far as needing it I don't really since I don't currently own a car since living in NYC I don't need one and quite fine renting  car whenver I need one.

Well I won't know the specific car until a few weeks from now when I go to LA. I am just wondering should I get the Full size with my credit card coverage or get a luxury with Amex or nationals coverage for CDW/LDW.

Re: Amex premium rental coverage?

If you don't need primary, then I wouldn't recommend paying for any coverage, you have cc's that will cover you just fine.

As far as premium goes ... here are your Sapphire's exclusions:

Examples of excluded expensive or exotic automobiles are these brands: Aston Martin, Bentley, Bricklin, Daimler, DeLorean, Excalibur, Ferrari, Jensen, Lamborghini, Lotus, Maserati, Porsche, and Rolls Royce. However, selected models of BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Cadillac, and Lincoln are covered

https://www.chasebenefits.com/sapphireVW15

So I think you will be covered for anything National rents, IME, you're not getting a Maserati or high end BMW etc for $212.  National's Premium selection varies greatly by location, some are not very premium at all (think Impala), and some have BMW 5 Series for example.  Not sure about LAX, since it is my home airport, so I don't rent there.

Here's what I would do, book the Premium, when you see a car you like call the Chase benefits admin 1-888-320-9961, just to make sure you are covered on it.

As far as the executive aisle, my faves that are generally stocked by National are the Volvo V60, Buick LaCrosse, Encore or Enclave, if you are lucky and they are there when you are.

As i said i dont have a CSP I downgraded it to  CS. And I am talking about Nationals Luxury cars not premium. I actually drove a Caddalic CTS I believe from them.

That's not the CSP I'm quoting it's the Sapphire ......

Sorry, I misspoke about Premium vs. Luxury .... I was refering to Luxury.

I spent the time quoting from the benefits guide, getting a link and a phone number, and sharing my National experience (I rent 3-4 times per month), no need to be so snappy ....

Snappy? who said I was being snappy? I was just stating i was thinking of going with luxury instead of going with the executive asile.  As far as my CS goes I forgot i have a BT on it currently with a 0% promo so  I can't even use the card anyways. Probably end up going with a Full size and just putting it on my Citi AA card so I can use the $400 to get my signup bonus with it.
