Amex question

My apologies if this is the wrong section.

I recently applied and was approved for the delta gold Amex. I haven’t received the card yet. I went ahead and made an online account and use the app also on my phone.

Now when I go onto the app it shows my card, credit limit, etc. when I click account it shows my name and member since ‘99?!

Is that just like what is shows when you haven’t got your card yet? Or will my card come and show member since ‘99? And how is that possible?? If my card shows that will they report to cra’s as open since 1999?

Re: Amex question

It will not report this card as aged from 1999. They do not do that anymore.

Did you have an AMEX from American Express Centurion Bank in 1999? Closed?

Re: Amex question

Maybe you were an AU on a relative's card? Or maybe a relative with the same name lived at your current address?

Re: Amex question

Dang. I got excited thinking when I seen my credit report next month I would have a 20 year old account lol. I don’t think I had any Amex before.

Was never an AU on a family members Amex. Actually I think I might have been added as an AU on our families corporate account back then. Not sure though. I can barely remember a last week lol. I’m getting old.

Re: Amex question

I had a Green Card from 1990 to 1995, then no Amex cards until July of this year. My Gold Card says "Member Since 90" Smiley Wink

It's just a vanity thing that Amex does if you had a card in the past. It doesn't affect account age. Being an Amex "member" is separate from an account. Accounts come and go, but membership is lifetime.

You probably just forgot that you had some form of Amex starting in '99. It doesn't really matter, but might dazzle a waiter at some point ... enjoy!

FICO Resilience Index: 69. Cards: 10/24, 3/12, 3/6. Accounts including loans: 12/24, 4/12, 4/6. At first accidentally, later deliberately, I used what I call the "thick-start" build method, which leads to heavy credit-seeking for a while with the goal of coming out of it without needing to build a thin profile for years. There are pros and cons. Thread describing method
Cards (oldest to newest)

Authorized user / Corporate / Auto loans / Personal loan

Card CLs total $154,600, not counting the AU card. The AU card brings the total to $181,100. In 03/19, card CLs totaled $0.
CU and bank memberships: Coastal Credit Union, joined 1987, direct deposit; PenFed, joined 2019; Navy Federal, joined 2020; USAA, joined 2020; Chase Bank, joined 2020. Best: Coastal, worst: NFCU. I have had weird Keystone Kops customer service problems with NFCU several times, despite their reputation here.

Closed but still on reports: American Express Gold, NPSL, 08/19-06/21 | American Express Delta Gold, $1,000, 09/19-10/20 | American Express Hilton Aspire, $3,100, 09/19-12/20 | Citi secured, $200, 04/19-09/19 | Capital One secured, $300, 04/19-08/19 | My Jewelers Club, $5,000, 05/19-08/19 | Green Dot Primor, $300, 05/19-08/19 | Self Lender secured $500 loan, 04/19-01/20 | Unsecured personal loan from Coastal, $1,000, 06/19-08/19.

Re: Amex question

@KJinNC

Thanks for the info. I really don’t remember but if they say I’m a member since 99 who am I to argue. Just wish I had a CL of a 20 year old card.

Thanks again all who answered.

Re: Amex question

If you ever had a Amex Gift type card and registered it in your name it will also show as member since the date you registered the card.

It's not certain that this will happen, probably not more than 60% odds.  Don't overstate!
