I have an upgrade offer on my gold card to upgrade to the plat. It pops up everytime I log in. I was looking at the terms and it says I can't get this offer if I have or had the plat card before. Does the upgrade offer overide that language. Like I am signed into my account and they keep offering my the upgrade so I plan to get rid of my current plat an upgrade my gold card. Its only 25k points for 2k spend but the bonus and upcoming travel plans and benefits makes the math work out.
That language spooked me recently too but you can disregard. You'll get the bonus points with the upgrade.
*Edit-to-Add: I stand corrected about the Once-Per-Lifetime Rules for upgrades offers extended by AMEX, based on the feedback from the community below. I was never in that situation with the upgrade offer for a card I had previously held, so I misunderstood that the rule applied in all cases. So I'll agree with ...

@Brian_Earl_Spilner: The lifetime language doesn't apply to upgrades ...

AMEX is firm about the once-per-lifetime rule.
(I do find it curious, though, that they don't do better pre-sceening to prevent offers to those who may not be eligible.)
If you were to apply, you should get the No-SUB-for-you warning before you finalize the deal, so you could try it without losing anything but I would expect the chance of no SUB.
See >this link< from tpg website regarding the once-per-lifetime rules.

Yes I never noticed that language before, but I have upgraded to cards I had previously in the past and always gotten the bonus. It would be disingenious for them to give me an offer on my account while I am logged in and then try to deny me later on. It's not like I am applying using a random mailer for somebody else or something. The offer is pretty low at 25k, but the offer is high enough that the 25k along with other benefits makes the card worth it in my calculation. Not sure the offer will get any better in the immediate future, but will wait a few weeks to see.
Yeah I pulled the trigger and got the bonus going Green->Platinum as the 25k+other benefits make Plat a better fit for me. Had recently downgraded my other Plat to a second Gold as that's my sweet spot card.
DW has had an offer to go from Green to Plat for a while now that's 100k for $6k spend but she's never had a Plat so I think the 25k is the best offer for former Plat holders. Can't verify that though.

I downgraded my plat to a green. I was hoping they would make me an offer to upgrade from green to gold. Sounds like they will only make offers to upgrade to plat lately.
I've always ignored upgrade offers from my AMEX green card. I would not realize a benefit from an upgrade. Don't want to pay higher yearly fees. Currently locked in at an AF of $55. Was $35 up until about 5 years ago.
It's my only AF card and I keep it mainly because it is my oldest card - 1984 issue date. I used to travel a lot for work but no longer.

Hard to say when Gold and Platinum tend to be a lot more popular around here than Green.
The upgrade offers have some odd ideas.. I'm being offered an upgrade from my Schwab Platinum to the personal Platinum. Not very interesting since I can at some point go for a full SUB on the personal, and certainly not going to trade the CS version for the personal.

Dang, green has been around for a bit. I currently have the green (1 year in august) and I'm wondering what type of offer I'll get. I wouldnt mind the gold for dining and groceries alone although there are no AF cards with 4x groceries out now. I just dont think the green any longer suits my but I worry about how the relationship will change if I close it.
