Aspire free night

I'm not sure what to do in this situation. Would you call amex? Here is the scenario.

I had the hilton Aspire last year. I also have a hilton business surpass I got last summer. Last August part of the signup offer for the business surpass card was I got a free weekend night. I have that cert number written down. It was issued in August. In december the AF posted on my aspire card and it was due on 1/4/20. On 12-26-19 I receieved an email indicating I receieved a free weekend night a benefit of the aspire card on the anniversary date. The number attached to that weekend certificate is the SAME number of the weekend certificate that was issued in August even though the email from Hilton is making it sound like a new certificate. On 12/31/19 I downgraded my aspire card to the no AF hilton card because I thought I had receieved the weekend cert. They rebated most of the credit but I still had to pay for one additional month.

Then this week I was offered to upgrade back up to the aspire so I took the offer. However, when I contacted Hilton to confirm I hadn't used my older certificate (because I couldn't remember if I used it or not) he indicated that only one certificate shows in my account. That it was issued last August (meaning its from the business card) but it expires next december which would be consistent with the certificate that was just issued since these certs are supposed to last for one year. He told me to clear this up I would need to call Amex.

I'm a bit worried about calling Amex because I upgraded back up like a week after I downgraded even though I held the prior aspire card for 13 months. Your supposed to get the free night as an anniversary gift, but I had cancelled the card. Still I did receieve the email and I did hold the card more than 12 months. I just don't want to run into an issue with amex looking to yank my new aspire upgrade offer that I signed up for. Thoughts?

Re: Aspire free night

Upon reflection I'm just going to let it go. I didn't do anything wrong and probably am technically entitled to that night since I paid a portion of the AF for this year but I really don't want amex looking closely at my accounts. Just not worth the risk of something going sideways. Win some lose some.
