Amex use with paypal

I need to pay my accountant a couple hundred dollars for his services. He doesn't take credit cards. Is it safe to put it on my plat card and pay him through paypal? Obviously he doesn't have the same name as me or anything. I've had other small paypal transactions with amex for online purchases that go through fine, but didn't know if they would get curious about a larger transaction.

Re: Amex use with paypal

I would guess you would be fine, as you are paying fees to use Paypal thus it isn't MS...  Although just be careful about how much you use it.  I wil let others way in on this as I have also been a bit curious and cautious w/regards to paypal and amex.

Re: Amex use with paypal

I’ve paid my dog sitter with my Amex through Paypal without issue.  I believe she has a business account with Paypal.  I don’t know if that makes a difference.

Oh its 2.9% screw that. I can pay with plastiq and my initial trial offer for like 1.99% or something. I dunno why I thought it was free on lower amounts.

Re: Amex use with paypal

Paypal free lol.. Ebay/Paypal they double dip although two different companies now.. Use to get hit with Ebay fees then next round was the paypal fees!  I despise paypal, although it is a love/hate relationship.  Reallly 1.9% special on site you mention to try it?  Hmm  might be time to send some money to folks that I owe them for something they bought me if that site can handle that

Re: Amex use with paypal

Me , I would not do it. i would just get a paypal account either mastercard or smart connect and do it. This would be much easier than jeopardizing the relationship with Amex. Or maybe they will code it as a Cash advance. Also, What kind of Good Accountant don't take credit cards. Hmmm Shady Smiley Embarassed

Re: Amex use with paypal

Yes, although that was the intro offer not sure they still have that. Also it only applies to Amex and MC. For Visa its 2.5% go figure.

Actually my accountant is not shady and is a CPA. He doesn't like taking them because they cut into his fees. I don't take credit cards for my business anymore either, because the merchant fees can become quite substantial on larger transactions.

Although its true the merchant fees can be high. Me being in the taxi business. i think i run about 80k a year in credit card  and the fees come to a couple thousand each year. The amount of business it drives to my business is more than offset. and in fact those fees i pay for the merchant fee can be written off on taxes as business expenses. So cpa or not any Good accountant would know that instantly and know the money  has no effect what so ever on their bottom line.
