I'm currently in grad school while working full time. I'm 41 years old and I know most "student" cards are designed for fresh undergrads. I am working to rebuild my credit following a disastrous home purchase in 2005 that left me with several lates/chargeoffs and a few collections accounts. My FICO equifax from a credit union car loan app in July of 2010 was 592. My EQ FICO from scorewatch yesterday is 673. I have one paid collection and several charge offs (all 2007 or earlier) left on my credit reports, along with two student loan accounts that show late payments (also from 2006-2007). I have no active negatives and no late payments since July 2007. I have 2 secured cards (WF a year old, FirstPrem 18mos old), one unsecured card (cap1 no hassle, 2 mos old), a mortgage (4/11) and 6k in student loans (currently in deferral due to being in school). I have 3 inquiries, one of which will be a year old next week.
My question is this: I know student versions of cards tend to accept lower credit scores, but I suspect they do so for people who have low scores due to short histories, not due to previous derogatories. Is there any point in applying for something like the CitiForward Student with my history or am I just as likely to be declined as I am the regular Citi cards?
Thanks,
Chris
welcome to the forums,,, but i not b for knowing
Well according to a discover rep i spoke to a few years back it's easier to get approved for a student card overall... i'm not sure how reliable that is so i'd suggest calling the backdoor number for the card's your wanting to apply for BEFORE applying and asking them that same question.
