Hi! Just received my Discover IT card a few days ago. I'm assuming it, like most cards, likes to see a lot of usage and multiple payments. In the three days I've had it I've run and paid about $1200 through it (CL of $1800). I plan to use it as my daily card and run as much as I can through it and pay off throughout the month. Good course with Discover to get that limit up?
When are the sweet spots/times to ask for CLI? HP vs SP? The luv button is showing on my account but I don't dare click it right now.
Appreciate any shared insight. Thanks!

After 90 days you will qualify to request for an increase, whether you get it depends if your overall profile will support it or not.
just use the card a lot, do a bt offer if you want, and ask for CLI's every 60-90 days. They will be big, or they will be as small as a few hundred dollars. Its worth it! Our card went from 7000 to 10000 to 14000 to 18000 to 19300 in less than 6 months. Always carried a balance too.
How were you able to run that much spend through it in such a short time?
It takes 3 days for my transactions just to post, then another 3 to complete the payment!

You can click it anytime.
They will first do an SP.
If they're happy with what they see they'll give you a CLI. If they're unhappy they'll say no.
If they're undecided (which happens with some cardholders with possibly borderline approval, happened to me) they'll say they can't decide without an HP and will ask your permission to do so. You can cancel your request at that point.
A safe bet is to try every 91 days or so. People have reported getting CLIs more frequently than that but I've found that to be a decent strategy.
Note: I started with $750 limit (Apr 2013) and since Feb 2016 it's at $28k. My first CLI was to $2k in Nov 2013 for a HP. All the subsequent ones have been auto / SP.
I ran into the same problem with it taking time for transactions to post and payments go through. I paid a couple bills the day I got the card (~$400). The next day only $150 of those payments has posted and the rest were pending. When I went to make my payment through the app it would only let me pay the $150. So I made that payment, and then went to my bank and forced a payment through my bill pay (that payment reflected 2 days later). Yesterday, I just did the same for the other recent charges since nothing else had posted yet. The second payment was just sent yesterday so it's not reflected.
Thanks for the tips and info everyone! With this being my daily user now hopefully they'll show me some love! Patience is key, right? ![]()

we honestly didnt run that much through it, not more than the quarterly bonuses and a 4k BT once the limit was higher. The disco increases seem to not be as big and rapid as they were last year but even with little spend they are pretty good about giving at least 500 every 90 days.
With your limit of 1200 I would guess if you used that card exclusively for 6 months you could easily have it at over 5k and go up from there. Unless your scores took a hit.

They started me out at $1800, I've charged and paid $1200 in 3 days lol. Second payment not yet reflected so available credit is lower. I'm hoping I can try in 30 (or 31) days for a CLI, mainly because of the lag in posting transactions and payments, I might even make a call and ok a HP. No hit from the INQ, it's only my third INQ. I might lose some points when the account hits though. Just have to wait and see I guess! Thanks.
My initial CLI was after 90 days of opening the accounts, and I've been able to get them every 90 days. Mine have always been for $500, but I've walked the CL up from $5K to $6500.
Discover does like heavy use and PIF, and seems to reward those customers with highest CLIs. I've maintained a balance on my card, since I'm in the promo period still. However, I'm not sure that most lenders necessarily "like" multiple payments, since many lenders put limits on payments. If you have a low CL, it's understandable (and maybe necessary) to make multiple payments.
