Hey there.
Congrats on the AMEX Delta. I have this card and started like you with 1k. On my 61st day I applied for the 3x limit and received...nada!!! So you can't go by that. I still haven't applied for a CLI. I'll wait until my year is up with them, which is in May. You got to be patience with AMEX.
I would PIF each month and wait 6 months before asking for a CLI. Make sure your scores are above 660 when asking as well and make sure your utlization is under 30%.
Good Luck!

Thanks for this thread and replies
, Got approved the other day for a Gold Delta Skymiles card so pretty excited as this was one of the cards I have wanted for awhile.
If I known this earlier, I would ask for CLI every 61 days since 2015. I only asked for two CLI since I first opened. I really missed a lot and I wished I read through all the info here last time. I just paid off $12k of Amex in the last September until now but only received a $4000 CLI because of my stupid fingers by asking only $4000. Do you think I can apply another Amex card with the SP pull or is that too soon? Thanks.
Congrats for getting the Delta Gold!
I know that AmEx has a sophisticated internal scoring rubric that they definitely adhere to in addition to your actual FICOs. YMMV, but in my experience, I've had a lot of success running a substantial amount of spend through my cards (using a high percentage of utilization, but ALWAYS PIF) in order to show them both that I can spend a lot, and I stay on top of my bills.
The other thing I would advise is to build up a bit of a rapport with them while allowing your FICOs to increase before apping for another card. AmEx has different underwriting standards for co-branded cards (i.e., Delta Gold) than their own cards (BCE). I think allowing your FICOs to grow above 680 (they usually pull Experian, but I've had them pull TU as well), before you app for another card is your best bet to get approved.
