Re: Anyone ever have this problem?

I closed a couple of cards that had an AF recently, and although initially hesitant, as they were my oldest cards, I'm pretty sure I made the right decision

1) Find out what your true Ficos are.   1b) Pay down util to one card, 5%.

2) Assumign they are then around 615, apply for Cap1 QS1

3) Close The Credit One accounts if they have monthly or annual fees.  At least one for sure.  And definitely if they have monthly fees and ae not "pre paid" on the AF  Anyway, close them assumign your util is solid.

Exactly what BallBounces wrote. Get your foot in the door with the Cap1 QS1. Take care of it really well and come time to pay the AF contact CS or EO and have it waived or upgraded to a regular QS. That is the way to go IMHO. Good luck !

It's not a bad card to have if you need it.  It is a rebuilder card.  After you have established your credit, there is no need to hang on to it because it is an expensive card that offers little to no value compared to other cards.  I started with a Credit One card, but closed it when  started qualifying for prime cards that offered better value with no monthly or annual fee.

Thanks everyone for their responses.

I have 9 CO's that expire from 6 years from this month to 6 years and 11 months from this month.

I do not have any collections.

The total reported balances on COs are 12k.  Most of my COs have zeroed out the balance.   My balance on my OPEN credit cards is around 10 a month on just one card.  I just randomly choose one a month.

These are my current cards:

Bank Cards I'd like to keep:

Capital One Venture One  3.5 K

Capital One Quicksilver  4K

Merrick Bank 700 (no fees of any kind)

Bank Of American 99/500 partially secured   500

Wells Fargo Secured  1K

Navy Federal Secured  500

USAA Amex   700 (unsecured)

Store Cards I'd like to keep:

Nordstrom  1K

Sams   1K

Bank cards I'd like to close:

Credit One Visa   1k  (2nd oldest card)

Credit One MC   1.4k   (oldest card)

Legacy Visa   700

Blaze MC   750

Store Cards I'd like to close eventually:

Brylane Home  300

JCrew  1550

Overstock 1800

Buckle  500

Gap  200

WalMart  150

Amazon  400

Firestone 1K

My fico scores from three days ago are from my fico.  They are  TransUnion 637.  Equifax   617.   Experian 645.

thanks again for reading and responding everyone

lets be honest. even after you close all of the ones you wanna close you still have a decent amount thatll stay open and youre reporting basically $10 a month... that wont even affect your utilization. save yourself the yearly money and keep what you want. that's still a decent profile and in a month or so (or now) you can apply for something like the chase freedom (a 6 year old chargeoff shouldnt be too bad considering people get good credit cards with bankruptcy thats only 3-4 years old)

i say just go for something that'll benefit you FINANCIALLY. but don't waste your time with banks like Citi or other anal banks because they are overly picky.

you don't have any lates in the past few years do you?

No, my last late was my charge off that is 6 years old, although my First Premier CO still updates monthly but the DOFD is 6 years and 2 months old.
