I know that Navy Federal Credit Union is the dream Credit Union to get in, but I have the chance to get an account with Service Federal Credit Union.
I tried doing a search but didnt see much (let me know if I overlooked) in these forums.
Anyone heard of Service Federal Credit Union? It's another military service credit union.
Looks like they offer a secured card with no annual fee so Im considering applying for membership. Would be great if I could get more info though
Are you referring to one that is located in Portsmouth, NH. Any one can join that credit union as long as you are a resident of NH. I would check with them about the requirements, for sure I know that you need not be a member of military to join like navy and usaa.

Just to clarify: You do NOT need to be military to join USAA.
My question isnt really about membership as I'm eligible. My question is whether this is a friendly credit union and how forgiving they are on rebuilding credit (I'm in the mid 600s).
FYI, according to their website, these are the eligibility requirements per their membership wizard:
* I am currently a member of Service Credit Union.
* I am a U.S. civilian employee of the Department of Defense and/or stand-by, inactive, retired or active military personnel of the Department of Defense; or I am a family member of one of the above.
* I live or work in one of the following counties of the state of New Hampshire
* I am an employee of the following Credit Union Trade Organization
* I live or work in one of the following towns in the state of Massachusetts
*Family of any member of Service Credit Union
*Please select the employer you work for

Just to Clarify, If you do not have the military affiliation you are NOT considered a full member of USAA andare denied products, deposit@ home, and may pay higher rates for some products.

Nice
BTW are you eligible for NFCU?
Unfortunately, no, I dont think I can join NFCU.
My brother was in the military not me. He was a veteran (Army) but he didnt retire.
He works on a military base as a civilian now but is a really pragmatic guy and has no interest in joining another credit union (he's already with Service Federal Credit Union) so I dont have anyway of gaining membership into NFCU.
He has no problem helping me get me signed up with Service Federal, but he has no interest in dealing with signing up with NFCU.

Siblings can join Navy Fed if he gets membership first
I know...but he has no interest in joining another banking institution.
