Your application was declined due to your recently discharged bankruptcy. We are unable to extend any unsecured credit at this time. Although we cannot currently establish an unsecured credit card in your name, you may be eligible to participate in our nRewards Secured credit card program. Well, to be fair 7 months post BK is probably not enough time to make you tolerable risk for NFCU. Also, what type of BK are we talking? CH. 7 or CH. 13? This likely could have affected their decision as well. Getting back into the credit game is going to take a little more time than that. Either way, I wish you luck!

Re: Anyone with a bk be aware before u apply to nfcu

Its a known fact that NFCU HP's every little thing...this is no surprise at all. Membership, CLOC, CC, and recon will all result in their very own HP.

Again, not surprised at all reading this.

Sorry for your wife's decline, but I personally would take the secured route, as it will build history with them. You won't change their minds on this. If they offered secured, thats all they will offer right now, and Id take it.

There are a lot of people post BK very successful with them. I got my my 1st cc with them 2 months post BK7 on recon with a 600 fico. They either like your profile or they don't.

But, I also got into Navy the legitimate way, and not thru the back door, so that may have played a small part.

Re: Anyone with a bk be aware before u apply to nfcu

It was chapter 7 plus she has 4 cards today totaling 12k
I was discharged 12 months ago and applied in may and was approved for $500 cc witch is today at 15k
And was instantly approved for the cloc 15k with the bk
So it's very strange how they handle it

Re: Anyone with a bk be aware before u apply to nfcu

Sounds about right. I was 16 months post discharge. Got Checking, Savings, approved for cashRewards, declined for CLOC. 4 PULLS! I'm happy I got the accounts though. CLOC was just gravy. I'll probably use them for a mortgage this summer.

I'd go for the Secured nRewards card if you have $500 available. It will be fipped to unsecured before you know it.

I have a DISMISSED BK (yes voluntary, but still) and they are my highest credit limit. Very grateful to NavyFed and Penfed.

Re: Anyone with a bk be aware before u apply to nfcu

Three TU pulls sounds perfectly logical, I assume one for membership, one for the CC and one for the recon. Navy is very YMMV with approvals and there is no real cookie cutter pattern for approvals. I often think people read crazy Navy approvals and build their hopes up too high only to curse Navy when they are declined. Have her try again later on down the road, I wasn't approved my first try, I didn't get upset I just tried again in a few months and the floodgates of approval opened up. Navy is great, don't give up the ship.

Re: Anyone with a bk be aware before u apply to nfcu

If I add my wife as AU on my nfcu witch is 15k will this speed up for her to be approved down the road for a card with them ?
