If it's not to personal, would you please share your previous history with Amex?
Sure...
2002 Had an amex I didn't know about with 1800 limit (Ex Wife nicely got it for me, if you know what I mean)
Divorced in 2006 - maxed card went into collections. I ended up paying in full and got an Oasis/Optima card.
7 Years, never missed a payment, was my only card, 900 Limit. about 30% utilized.
Had that until this past January when I cancelled it because I couldn't apply for a real card. Got Declined for numerous reasons.
Tried a couple other revolvers and a green card, all declined. ( Fico in the 650 range then )
( They triple ageny hard pulled me twice for the green for some reason when I recon'd )
This month all my ficos were abover 700, (Last baddie dropped off) so tried again.
Thanks for sharing. My history with Amex is a little more tarnished than yours. Perhaps one day I will have the "extra" funds to make good with them. Until then I am happy with where I am.
After the divorce, and I found all this stuff, I ended pulling my 401k to pay things off, had a foreclosed home, lost my job, etc.
Most things I settled for a lesser amount, I paid Amex in full because I knew some day I'd want them again.
Over the past 7 years, I havent been able to get any kind of credit, then things started dropping off. My very last baddie dropped of early this year.
I got my life back, finally. It's been a long road.

No storm lasts always & the sun comes out again. AMEX was there when my credit took a beating through my divorce, but were ALWAYS by me when I needed them, But life is better now & it's always nice when you hear from someone that survived the storm rather than allowing the storm to steal their joy. Glad that we have this very supportive community in which we learn from each other.
