The moment you hit and apply for new app. My score dropped every app. I pulled my score after every ap just to see what happened and each time it was lower so inq's count against your score immediately but that is a great idea lol

LOL,  My score stopped dropping because of inquiries.  I guess I have so many that it is now a fraction of a point deduction for me.  Smiley Very Happy

Yep, after a certain point, the damage from inquiries seems to max out.  For me, it was inq #8 on EQ that did zero points of damage.  EX #8 still hurt, though, so that's not a general rule.  This will vary from person to person and from CRA to CRA.

Re: Apping Strategy?

Guaranteed you would get a huge line with one of the popular CU's you see on here.

With your scores you could could many cards with nice CL's.

Re: Apping Strategy?

Yeah, okay then, I agree that inq sensitive issuers should be applied to first. I know Citi is one of them, Discover was the last I got and didn't seem to care that I had a lot of inqs on the TU they pulled the second time I app'd. Its possible they saw the high score and didn't look at anything else? Chase also approved me.....

I dunno it's confusing, All I can say is that, Amex approved me, then Citi, then Chase, then Discover all based on TU. 6 inquiries, 4 approvals. All happened over the course of a month after paying down my balances between 2/29 and 3/10. Some hit before my Amex application, a couple more during my Citi, then everything was paid off (the last 50% of my total debt) before applying for Chase and Discover. I don't believe any of the new accounts reported before I got my Discover card either.

Before I started my own app spree I hadn't had any inquiries since December so the only one they might be worried about is the 4/11. If you're looking for a card with Citi try them first. But to be honest, I'd say go for the cards you're after first. In my case, I wanted an Amex first, then I wanted citi because I have an account with them and want to build a credit relationship, then Chase because I wanted their Freedom card but if denied could live without it, then last on my list was Discover only so I could have one type of each card LOL.

But yeah, I'd saw go for what you want most because that would be what you'd most likely get approved for/with the highest new line probably. It be a bummer if trying to map out this plan causes you to end up with nothing or not getting what you really wanted anyway.

Re: Apping Strategy?

I  just wish it wasnt such a game!

Guess Im going to go with

BofA (liked the response I got from the pre app site)
PenFed (seems to have great  beginning and increasing CL's)
Discover or Citi just  because-if anyonce cna recommend one of thier products would be appreciated

dont really want an AmEx- not sure why

THe 4/11 inq was for my mortgage refi so theres nothing that could have been done to prevent that one

Just looking to maximize the loss of points by offsetting with  good tradelines I guess

Any further guidance is trmendously appreciated!

Re: Apping Strategy?

Sounds like you have a very nice plan, madameozzie Smiley Happy

Some quick comments re PenFed:

** I would apply over the phone with them. All things being equal, the
human touch (phone app) is always better than the technology touch
(online app).

** PenFed is very conservative and kinda gunshy when it comes to
inquiries. With the phone app you'll be able to explain to a real live person
about the mortgage refi inquiry. If you app online, it'll just be a piece of info
on a computer screen with no personal input from you.

Your EQ score is great and you should have no problem getting the CL
you want. But the human touch is always best.

The whole process shouldn't take more than 3-5 minutes. We just had
someone who posted today who got a 10k Visa Platinum and a 30k
auto loan by apping over the phone. Very pleasant experience and the
customer service rep was super nice....

Hope this helps you. Good Luck! Smiley Happy

Re: Apping Strategy?

App PenFed first. They will pull EQ, and they won't see any other activity.

BofA doesn't seem to worry about other apps. They pull EX.

Depending on where you live, Citi and Discover MAY pull TU, no telling. But I don't think that either of them would be bothered by the number of inqs that you have.

Yay for banzai app'ing!
