Applying for new card

I currently have a TU score of 666, and EQ 677 according to Credit Karma. I got my first credit card in March of 2017. Its a Discover It Secured card. $200 CL. I applied for a Capital One Platinum card after Credit Karma said my approval odds were fair. I applied and got it for $300 with no security deposit. Now I am wondering if I should get another card or should I wait? I am aware that some credit cards require you to have at least 6 months of credit history. I am very close. What would you suggest I do? I also have a Best Buy Citi Card that I am an authorized user for, that one is at $1000. That one has been opened since April. Cap1 has been open since May. Credit Karma says that I have Good approval odds for the following cards: Blue Cash Everyday Card from American Express, The Amex EveryDay Credit Card from American Express, Blue Cash Preffered Card from American Express, and Credit One Bank Cash Back Credit Card.

Re: Applying for new card

I would suggest pulling your FICO scores before considering any additional applications. Vantage scores can be off by a lot.

I'm guessing based on the secured Discover card that your scores are probably much lower.

Re: Applying for new card

Discover is not showing any FICO scores. I don't know why. Maybe I have to wait one more month? If they count March (when I got the card), it should be 6 months this month. If not, its 6 in September. I just requested a CLI on capital one and got $100. So now my new CL is $400.

Re: Applying for new card

Go to creitscorecard.com and get your EX FICO from there.

Don't go by CreditKarma scores.  They're garbage.

Re: Applying for new card

Okay. This is what it said:

Sorry, but we're unable to provide a credit scorecard for you at this time.

Some possible reasons:

  • Information you entered doesn't match any records from our credit information provider, Experian. If you had a recent name or address change, this could be why.
  • You are still new to credit and have not established a credit history yet.

Re: Applying for new card

Ok, so this was your first credit of any type I'm guessing? I would wait another month until you have FICO scores and then update this post for suggestions.

Re: Applying for new card

You will not generate a FICO score until at least 6 moths of an active, reported tradeline is on your report.

I would not apply for an Amex at least until the time you generate a FICO score. Check Amex's pre-qualification tool at that time and see if you have any offers.

Please don't rely on CK for determining your odds on getting approved for credit cards. As you can see, even when you are approved, it is for TOY limits. Also, please don't apply for AmX based on CK. Go to AmX prequal site and see what offers, if any, they have for you. And absolutely, don't apply for a CC from CreditOne. IMHO, I suggest you cool off from applying until you have more time under your belt and your FICO scores, not CK scores, increase to ~680+.

GL to you.
