Approval for Amex Account?

What are my chances of being approved for a AMEX account after 2 Amaex charge-offs were removed from my account this month?  My FICO scores are TU-735, EQ-718, EX-730. The only derogs I have are some 2 year-old lates on a closed PIF Discover Card. Should I bother?

6/09 - EQ 763 / TU 770

Current Score (2/2010): TU-767, EQ-745
Goal Score (12/2010): TU-780, EQ-790

Re: Approval for Amex Account?

You said you had 2 Amex derogs?

Amex is VERY stringent on past history - but if your scores are over 730 ymnv..

Apply for the most easiest amex to get - the Delta, and than convert it to Blue would be my advise.

Re: Approval for Amex Account?

Sorry about the typo. Yes, I had 2 Amex charge-offs fall off my CRs this month. Should I wait at least 6 months before trying? I my job is requesting that I get a corporate card for my travel expenses. I'm not sure if Amex has black balled me given our history.

Re: Approval for Amex Account?

Call Amex and go for an Oasis card. This card is specifically for those who defaulted with Amex. Some at this forum have posted this is the best way to reestablish a relationship with Amex.

Re: Approval for Amex Account?

And if this is the one that I am thinking about, the very cool thing is that once you meet their conditions, they report your new card with the history starting from way back when. This is HUGE if you are credit-length-history challenged.

Heck, Noah's DW even had the original baddie with Amex deleted when she signed up for the Oasis card.

For your company's corp card, you won't be able to use the Oasis, but AMEX is a little less stringent on corp cards (at least with my staff).  They may set a spending limit - like $8k but most likely will approve.

Amex is notorious for blacklisting. But hey, Oasis is the way to go!

Re: Approval for Amex Account?

Thanks everyone! I anticipate Amex will give me a hard time given my history with them. I'll let my company deal with them. My FICO scores should help. Hopefully. I'll let you know what happens.

Re: Approval for Amex Account?

Update -
I applied for a BofA Rewards American Express Card as was approved for $2,500. I guess this is the closest I will get to an Amex Card. I'll take it!
