In the past couple of weeks I've gotten approved for both the Discover More and now the Amex Zync card(With a 500 dollar limit which is fine for now) So I'm stoked to be getting away from capital one and the other crap cards. My question is backdating. I was an AMEX customer back in 2003 and was a major credit noob and didn't know that a charge card meant pay balance monthly(whoops), I was young. Well it went to collections immediately and I eventually paid it off before it went to outside collections. My question is, even though I had problems back in the day with them, will they still backdate my card?? I'd love to get the 10 years back as my AAOA is lacking and this would be AWESOME!!. PS I don't even remember what kind of card it was, I believe it was a gold card.

Wait till you get card and see what it says your member date is online. It might auto backdate. If it doesn't you can ask for it. How did you leave the old amex? Did you settle or pay it? If not, might want to be careful and not ask for it as it means the old record wasn't auto attached to your account.
+1. Most of the time people report that they are auto~backdated when their previous accounts were fairly recent, so when you set up your online access look at the member since date ~ if it says 2003 then you are good to go and it will be backdated on your credit reports.
I left my old account in good standing. They closed it after it went 30 days late, but I paid in full before it was sent to an outside collections. I honestly only had the card for 60 days before it was closed, and its more than 7 years old. I really only applied for the Zync to run some money thru it for giggles and get my foot in the door with Amex for down the line, and the backdating. If it backdates it could definitely add a year or two to my AAOA which would be stellar
If the Amex TL on your CRs shows as paid-collection, then your member date on their site will say 2003, but your new card will say 2012.
If the TL on your CR just shows a postive, closed account, then both member date on site AND card will say 2003.
Amex doesn't show up on my CR at all? I don't even know if it ever has to be honest

If you had late pays then I'm sure it was on your reports at one time...they may have just deleted it after you paid it off. Or could be that the CRAs removed it earlier than 10 years from the date closed.
Awesome, got my card today and it says customer since 2004. Hello AAOA!!
