However, the customer service rep I talked to on the phone literally just pulled up the online app, asked me the same questions, and told me the same results that I'd get from the online prequalification. She said they're the exact same thing and have the same accuracy, if you will. So I could do it online or call, but it will be the same results. With, of course, the preemptive, "nothing is guaranteed until you actually do that hard pull and app."
So much for calling...
Yup , 100% agree. One reason ive never put too much stock in a Discover double dip. I call in trying for one, the CSR just takes same info/questions that i could fill out online. Chances are if someone gets approved after being told they were preapproved, they will be a believer. If you dont get approved, a non believer. Go figure

I was approved for the NRewards CC.. So yay me for getting my foot in the door!
Just an update:
since this post my secured card unsecured after just 6 months from $200 to $2000. Now 5 months after it being unsecured I was approved for a small SP CLI of $1000. Prior to the CLI I prequalified for all of NFCU credit cards. I went ahead and applied for the Flagship & was auto denied... but after approved for the CLI.. super odd lol
just a note.. the prequalified offers are not always guaranteed.
