I've had a CC with Aspire for 13, almost 14 months. Their APR is high but they had no annual fee, which is the only reason I got their card. I am studiously avoiding fixed fees since they were a major contributor to by BK in 2019. Because their APR is the second highest in my collection, my spend with them has been limited to two minor monthly subscriptions. However, they offered a 0% APR promo rate for six months so I did spend some to take advantage of it. My current balance/CL with them is approx. 850/1,500.
Tonight I got an email saying they are going to a $5.00 monthly fee in May, but I can reject the fee increase before that date. However, I would lose the ability to use the card. Apparently, I would have the normal amount of time to pay down my existing balance, and I assume the card would then be closed.
I'm not looking for adivce per se, as I already know I will reject the fee and pay off the card. It is such a minor part of my total CL among all cards that I have no reason to keep it if I have to pay a monthly fee.
However, I am wondering, is this new fee for everybody, or am I being profiled?
