@Anonymous wrote:Good question. I think that's my problem with the auto cli and my seemingly decreased opportuntiy to ask for an additional CLI. My income has gone up significantly, I got a 15% pay raise and my util has down from 22% to 11% recently, but still not fully reporting (they don't know those two facts). Hence, I wanted to wait one more month before asking for a 4K CL.
Hehe---I know, I know...I'm being abnoxious!I think the reason they give me the CLI was due to my new CLs on my other CCs...they are all at 15K, but one, which is at 12.5K.
Just to be the dreary voice of reason, will there be a genuine problem in how you use your card if you only have a $12.5K CL rather than a $15K?
I agree that low-limit cards do seem to serve as an anchor, slowing down overall credit progress and inspiring lower CL's from other lenders. So I definitely see why $500 and even $1000 cards would go on the chopping block, as other cards move higher.
We have a lot of good info here, on the CC forum in particular, on how to groom ourselves for lots of CCC luv. Sometimes I feel like I'm watching the TV programs about dog and cat shows, with all the primping that goes on --shampoos, and whisker trimming, and claw (nail) painting, and so forth. These are great tips if you need them, but once you have a good credit history, with any baddies old and fading into the distance, it might be time to pull your horse out of the hunt, and let the others go on.
We do tend to get caught up here in a keeping-up-with-the-Joneses attitude with CLI's. I'm worn to a nub trying to keep a decent amount of activity going on the cards that I have. I already have $85K+ in CC CL, plus the $50K HELOC. I can't fathom what I would do with any more.
I'm having to agree with Sir Chaos on this one: unless there is some compelling reason why you need (as opposed to want) an even higher CL, I'd be cool with what they gave.

I'm done going after CLIs for a longggg time...the reason why I wanted 15K on this particular Amex was because of actual high use (i really put a dent in this card)...I'm always up towards 15-20% util, and sometimes depending on the reporting dates, I get dinged on my FICO score. Hence, if I got the 15K CL, it would be more like 5-10% util monthly...but I guess I'm getting caught up in keeping util that low for not that good of a reason...do I really need to, since I PIF every month anyways? hmmm...I guess, yes and no--
