@CreditCuriosity yes, there are examples of CLDs that will inevitably happen regardless. Those are not the ones that this post is about. It's about being warned of a potential CLD and thus given the chance to sidestep it.
It probably has to do more with accounts that are lightly to moderately used getting the opt out option, where those that are barely used or unused just see the CLD outright. No doubt, the ability to receive the option in the first place like anything credit related will be profile dependent.
My concern is CapOne's Discover card. Any news of account reviews and CLD activity with that product?

To be safe, you could always CLD it to a bare minimum and put a small purchase on it annually. I take it you want to retain the Discover Card for it's age.

A huge problem with Citi is I can't trust them. My Strata Elite could get declined at any time for a mysterious reason that even the phone rep can't help with. In my 2 months holding this card, it's happened several times. My Cap 1 and Amex cards are 100% reliable. I can just count on them. So I use my Citi cards for the rewards structure, but when I need something reliable, they stay in the SD. I think many people have had similar recent experiences with Citi.
@AndySoCal wrote:I do not have any use for Capital One credit cards. I had QuickSilver in 2018 and closed in 2020. Replaced by State Department FCU started with a 15k limit now 25k. Cap One had 10k still would be that limit today due to spend on the card. Savor the dining part I get better with Redstone. The entertainment part I have no use for. Venture at best is 2% card unless you use Cap One travel I prefer other options for travel cards. I had Cap One Walmart card I closed for the Redstone card. I banked with Cap One and closed the accounts because I could get better rates elsewhere in 2018 or there abouts.
Yes, nobody is saying there aren't other options that could work out better for some people. But when I use my VX to book a hotel in the Cap 1 portal with guaranteed price match and 10x venture miles back, with all Cap 1's transfer partners, I just have to say try that with your credit union cards. Won't happen.
Even other premium travel cards can't compete with this, because their portals are 30% overpriced. Looking at you, Citi.
I'm not a Cap 1 fanboi, but I just call it as I see it. They aren't perfect, but in some use cases their products are just superior. The irrational Cap 1 hate by some folks is, well, just irrational and not based in reality, IMO.

No, it is my daily driver and a CLD would be detrimental. Average monthly spend is $1k-$2k but can exceed $3k. Current CL on card is $31k.

I don't think cap1 is rocking the boat yet with the discuss merger although in time all the systems will talk to each other and be integrated. If putting 2-3k a month on and not much exposure with other cap1 cards i wouldn't be worried if I were you personally.

Doesn't sound like a CLD candidate to me. I wouldn't worry about it.
@Patient957 I will ask a simple question what is a mile worth in dollars and cents? With Venture X there is a $395 annual fee which means you would have to make that much in miles to break even. Cap 1 offer is 10000 points are worth $100 on Venture X. Here is the card I have with no annual fee. Here is the link below

I do not have the annual fee hurdle to break before I would make money on the card. If Cap One works for you that is fine.

They give you a $300 travel credit each year plus 10,000 points on your card anniversary. So, basically they are paying you $5 a year to use the card. That is, provided you use the credits and points to travel each year. VX is considered one of the best values in premium travel cards.
