I was going through my accounts this morning and noticed that my BB&T account showed a payment reversal and a late fee. Payment was due on 5/12 and it was reversed on 5/15. I was dumbfounded since I indeed set up autopay as soon as I received my card and I also had a $15k LOC to cover any possible short falls. I called BB&T and they said it was returned and the reason was that the account was not valid. The csr asked for my account and routing numbers, I read them back to her and they all matched. She told me to call NFCU and ask why the payment wasn't processed.
I called NFCU and they showed no payment attempted to be processed on my account from BB&T. She asked me to read the account numbers exactly as they were on my BB&T account (NFCU) payment information. I read them back to her and they were correct EXCEPT for the 6 or so 0"s in front of the account number. She said that any numbers, even 0's, in fornt of the account number would throw the payment off.
When I set up the account I entered the account number and BB&T's system populated the 0's in front of the account number by default. I called BB&T back and explained the situation. She then put me on hold for about 10 minutes and came back and said that they can manually take out the 0's in front of the account number but it would take 1-2 billing cycles to be corrected. She had also said that they are crediting my account for the late fee. I then processed a payment to them, via my billbay, to make sure it gets to them right away.
So if you use NFCU, be sure to CALL if you set up autopay. Tell them to remove the auto populated 0's in front of your account number or your payment will not be processed.

Hmmm, all my cards are through NFCU auto billpay and I've never had that problem. Are your payments being pushed or pulled? All of mine are pushed. Or is this just something with BB&T only.
That may have been the glitch. Seeing all the 0's might have moved it from what 8 to 12 numbers and threw it off. Never seen any account that asked for all the 0's on a checking or savings account. So it really isnt BB&T's fault. I push from my checking to BB&T CC.

The payment was pulled. It was something with BB&T not NFCU.

I entered my account number as it is on BB&T's payment page. By default their system added the zero's in front of my account number. The payment was pulled. It was their systems fault for adding the zero's to my account number. By them doing this NFCU did not recognize the account and therefore could not pay it.
