BBVA Double New Card SUB Bonus in Dec.

Just saw on DoC that BBVA is offer double SUB bonus for new CCs from Dec. 1 thru Dec. 31. That's a $200 SUB for both their Clear Points & Rewards cards for a $1500 spend in 90 days, and a $1k SUB for their Select card for $4k spend in 90 days. Note that BBVA CCs are only available in states where they have branches, unless you get an offer, usually a mailer offer. They have branches in AL, AZ, CA, CO, FL, NM & TX.

Also note in the fine print #2: "100,000 bonus points credit offer not available to existing BBVA credit cardholders". That's for the Select card.

I have both the Clear Points & Rewards card, and decided last Friday to app for the Select card, not knowing about $1k/100,000 points until this morning.I called my local BBVA branch and asked if I could apply by phone and was told No, I needed to come in & apply in person, I have an appointment Monday morning. I think the $500 SUB is still a pretty sweet deal, that's a 12.5% return on the $4k spend before any rewards. It has a $95 AF waived the first year. In my opinion the rewards don't justify the AF: 4% entertainment, 3% dining, 2% travel, 1% all else. So if approved I'll cancel before the AF hits, that's something I wouldn't normally do to a lender, try that with Amex and you'll find out quickly what they think of SUB churners. But with the mid 2021 completion of the PNC purchase of BBVA I'm thinking cancelling the Select card would get lost in the shuffle.

And pure speculation on my part, but I'm thinking with the pending purchase BBVA may be currently more generous on approvals. Those bank purchases usually have terms that the final purchase price is determined by the # of active accounts at closing. And I think this double SUB offer supports my speculation.

They offered this in May when DW got her ClearPoints card. They actually credited the SUB as two separate $100 credits, which I thought was a little odd. Either way, it's a pretty nice SUB on a good card.

Just FYI, the BBVA Select supposedly has a minimum income of $100K to be able to apply. I don't know if that is applicable to your situation or not, just sharing for anyone who may be interested in this card.

Yeah, I saw that 1 comment that claimed he was denied in April for income under $100k. Very applicable to my situation, I'm just under $60k. I'm skeptical on that $100k minimum income, it's not that great a card and Amex & others don't have minimum income requirements for their top tier cards. Guess I'll find out Monday.

Yeah it certainly seems odd for them to have it income restricted to me too.
