BECU making a payment

Ok I went to make my payment this morning and apparently I can only pay through my BECU checking/saving account?? I swore I made payments directly from my external account, but it is not giving me that option. So I had to transfer from my external account to my BECU account and once that clears I can make a payment. I just got statement so I have plenty of time, however I don't not for the life of me remember having to do this before.

Any insight would be appreciated, and if this is how it is, this card is going in the drawer SMH................................

Re: BECU making a payment

I can only use external transfer to deposit money in checking/savings, but I always had to pay them from BECU accounts.
I've never seen an option to pay them directly with external accounts.

Re: BECU making a payment

I use my bank's bill pay service to make my payment to BECU. To make it easier to remember, I do this at the beginning of each month.

Credit Scores (FICO 8): 844 Experian June 2026, 831 TransUnion May 2026
Credit Cards (newest to oldest): U.S. Bank Cash+ $17,300 | NFCU Platinum $25,000 | BECU Cash Back $12,500 | American Express BCE $9000 | Simmons Bank Visa $10,500 | Capital One Quicksilver Visa Signature (upgrade from Quicksilver Visa Platinum, which was a PC from No Hassle Miles Rewards Visa Platinum) $5750

Re: BECU making a payment

This is my only gripe about my CC with them.  I spend less than $8 a month on this card.  LOL.  Usually my EBates big fat check deposit is enough to cover for several months.

Re: BECU making a payment

I don't have a BECU credit card, but is your credit card account not listed as one of the eligible "To" accounts under External Transfers?

https://onlinebanking.becu.org/BECUBankingWeb/Transfers/ExternalTransfers.aspx

In my experience most credit unions have worked that way where you can only select other CU accounts on a credit card's payment page, but you can always initiate an external transfer to any account.  NFCU and PenFed fortunately don't make it that cumbersome.

Re: BECU making a payment

My main bank gives me one of those transfers a month without fees.  I pay all of my bills on the first and would have plenty of time for the money to show up but it's not any fun to go through two steps to pay a CC.

Re: BECU making a payment

This is really nothing unusual for most CUs
Credit card payments do require an extra step for those who dont keep money in BECU accounts, but I think that's the whole idea, to have a bit more engaged customers
While we may be interested in CC lending primarily, that's not their bread and butter.

They are large enough to resemble traditional bank while maintaining what makes some CUs great, so I would not write them off.
I still love them 15 years later
