Are they difficult to get approved for aside from the secured ones?

Not sure.  But in reading on this site I've heard of a site called whogavemecredit.com
 
This site appears to be a site where individuals sign in and tell their scores, location, card applied for and which report was pulled and the outcome of their experience.
