What's your current util, the balances reported on your credit reports? Even if you pay in full every month, if you wait until the statement drops, it hurts your score by making it look like you're carrying balances.
BofA almost always pulls EX, and they then go on to pull TU for some, generally those with lower scores or with short or troubled credit histories.
Is your TU score a FICO score?
If you can get your scores up in the 680-690+ range, with low util (remember, it's what's reported) and your income, you ought to be able to get a good card.
I have a worldpoints MC that's an affinity card, through my professional organization. But I think it works the same as any of the regular ones.
If you're not opted out of pre-approvals for credit and insurance offers, go to their pre-approval site and see if they offer you anything. It's a soft on EQ, and as I said, if you accept an offer, it's a hard on EX and probably TU.
I'd definitely wait until your scores are up more so that you'll start out with a better deal.

* Credit is a wonderful servant, but a terrible master. * Who's the boss --you or your credit?
