Barclaycard dispute issues

tl;dr version: Has anyone had difficulty with disputing items with Barclaycard?

Here's my current ongoing saga:

I took my parents to Vegas last month and stayed at the Linq. I paid for both rooms on my Arrival+ card, and during check-in, they had to shuffle our rooms around. When I got home, both charges were there and correct. The following day however, I had a 3rd charge that I didn't recognize, so I called Caesar's billing department. They told me it was a room in the name of someone I had never heard of. (I suspect when they shuffled our rooms that my card somehow got swiped on theirs, I don't believe it was really fraudulent, just a mistake) Caesar's told me that they couldn't/wouldn't do anything, and that I should file a dispute with Barclay's. I did that - very old school process, BTW - and eventually Barclay's sent me a packet of info they received from Caesar's, including the personal info of the person whose room got charged to my card! (Name, address, phone) They also asked me to return a letter which stated that I had possession of my card, didn't know the person, didn't authorize the charge, etc. I got a call about a week later stating that they determined that the charge was fraudulent, closed that card, and the next day I got a credit on my account. Oddly, a few days later I got a letter stating that the merchant credited my account, so they closed the claim.

Fast forward a week, and I got a call from someone from a # I didn't recognize asking for personal info saying they were from Barclay's, so I told them I'd call back to the # on my card. I logged into my account this a.m., and the charge got added back again! So I called this morning (7am PT on a Weds) and they were updating their systems, so they can't tell me what's going on, and I have to call back.

Is this a typical indicator of what it's like dealing with them, or am I just having an oddball bad experience? I've been really spoiled with Chase and Amex where the process was painless, and I'm wholly unimpressed with Barclay's customer service so far.

Re: Barclaycard dispute issues

The only valid dispute of a charge is one challenged by mail with proof of delivery. I would still file those papers that they sent is the only way to protect your rights. You have 60 days from the date of the statement the disputed charge appeared on.
