Barclaycard security

Why is it that barclays expects people to answer crazy questions about things from 40 years ago? And then shut down their card for one mistake and demand they call in when they already have called in twice?

And even having people send in extra copies of things like birth certificates or professional licensure? It's just crazy if you ask me. Never have I seen another bank be like that!

Tempted to suggest that any friends or family that are experiencing issues should close their cards.

Re: Barclaycard security

Yet another quirk of Barclays that makes me (once again) feel fortunate that I'm on their blacklist.  Smiley Happy

Before it's mentioned, I am aware that other issuers also have security protocols... but from the feedback on the forums it seems Barclays is in a class of their own.

Re: Barclaycard security

I've never experienced this with Barclay's in the two years I have had accounts with them. The questions they ask me when I call in are all related to my account, SSN, etc. More lenders than just Barclay's use LexisNexis to get information ( which seems to often be incorrect), so it is not limited to Barclay's. Sorry this happened to you.Smiley Sad

Re: Barclaycard security

Sorry you're having to jump through hoops for a Barclay credit card.

At this point, nothing surprises me about any creditor.

Re: Barclaycard security

I've never had that problem with Barclay's myself, but all issuers put us through one hassle or another at times. They're corporations. They aren't perfect. Stuff happens.

Like I said, I've never had that issue. I don't know how people would be managing to get their accounts flagged repeatedly, or often enough that this is really a long term problem. Send in the documents, get  the issue lifted, and move on. If they were asking you to send a birth certificate in order to clear your purchase of a candy bar I'd understand, but there must be something bigger here. Annoying yes, big deal not really, IMO.  Has nothing to do with the card or rewards, which is ostensibly why you told them to sign up!

Re: Barclaycard security

Questions are based on my public records. These are questions that only you can answer. Unfortunately, people get upset but these days is very easy for people to pretend they are you call the bank, add themselves as an authorized user and go on a spending frenzy.

If Barclays receives info from MasterCard or visa that the account could be at risk they are going to close it out. Normally they send you a new card and they won't deactivate the one you have until you get the other one.

Call Barclays and ask to speak with a resolutions manager, they will be happy to help you.

Unfortunately public records are often incorrrect, as we've seen many times on the boards. Usgae of public records information to verify customers or applicants is not limited to Barclay, however -  many lenders use this information. It's not a Barclay issue.

Re: Barclaycard security

Barclay is the only lender I have that makes you answer verification questions (online) everytime I go to do a balance transfer online (while I'm logged into my account). There is one question that they keep asking that is definitely wrong information, but they're not the only one to ask me that question so I have learned what the correct answer is. You would think that these agencies who supply this information about us would do a better job at making sure their records are accurate. It's kinda hard to verify ourselves when they use inaccurate information.

Hm, this must be YMMV. I've done several balance transfers on Barclay Rewards and Apple cards, and never had to answer any questions to complete the balance transfers online.

Realize also that any lender has no responsibility for inaccurate public records information- that's LexisNexis, SageStream and all of the other useless information gathering agencies that pass around incorrect information.
