Hi, Everyone.
I woke up this morning to a letter from Barclays stating that they had slashed my credit limit from $2000 to $250. I have never been late, and in fact, I always paid in full every month to Barclays. Many months, I would spend $2500 on the card, but it never exceeded the limits because I paid it down every few days. With all that said, I'm at about a 34% credit usage ratio. I know banks like to see below 30%.
Has anyone had any luck with Barclays ever reconsidering their position? With a $250 credit line, I can't even use it to buy most plane tickets. It's essentially a useless card to me, but I want to keep it because I get free bags on Frontier Airlines with it.
If anyone has any suggestions or tips, I would be most grateful . I am even willing to send Barclays $1000 to let me use the card like I have in the past.
Thank you so much!
I am not sure it matters, but I am thinking it might help if we knew why they cut your CL. Did they give you a reason in the letter? Most lenders will explain. You can call them and they will tell you. Knowing this and sharing w the forum could help with suggestions.. good luck w everything.

You seem to be mistaken. Banks like to see under 10%. Having 34% is the same as screaming either that your abusing the account or that the limit is too low. Barclays however is looking at all of your accounts periodically and something said that they are not interested in having lots of credit available to you. They have started to balance chase so you can either get down to zero and see what they do, probably close, or start getting all of your cards paid down.
Barclays has been aggressively reducing CL for non/minimal use of their cards. It happened to me. They make you apply for a CLI, which is a short pull. If you do get a CLI, they can reduce the CL again for non /minimal use after 6 months. If you don't use the card regularly, it's better to close it.

Barclays is a pretty lousy bank. But probably if you call up they'll restore it.
In the future I would try to keep usage in the 10 to 25% range, and pay in full each month.
Getting Barclays out of your life is never a bad option either. So if they don't restore your limit, then I would just say goodbye.
