Re: Barclays adverse action

IMO, they are a bucket of poo..no matter what their sign up bonuses are. lol

How many cards of theirs did you have and what kind of usage were they getting?

I had 4 cards, LL Bean, JetBlue, Cashforward, and Ring.

I used the Ring for balance transfers mostly.

I used the LL Bean, Cashforward, and JetBlue for purchases, regularly, but modestly.

Recently (a) I consolidated the Cashforward and the LL Bean card into just the LL Bean card, and

(b) accepted the 0% balance transfer offers made to me on the JetBlue and LL Bean cards.

What was your total exposure/CL with them? I was almost ready to take a HP with them the other day to CLI my 3 y/o Rewards M/C up from $6750--but held off because they are just way too unpredictable with their AA strikes.

I would not be surprised if my calling to consolidate the Cashforward card into the Bean card was what precipitated this. Knowing how weird they are, I've generally followed a policy of staying off their radar.

So yes it's probably not a bad idea to stay far away from them Smiley Happy

Sorry-I  meant what was your total dollarwise exposure?  Yes-their weird ways are also the reason I've limited myself to only one card with them (which was a pre-selected offer I accepted a few years ago) and never tried to push for a really high CL. That way if they ever decided to bail on me I have at least 35 others from various lenders and there's no loss of sweat.

Total of credit limits was 44k

I say good riddance! Even if you were to get your accounts re-instated, are you willing to take the chance that they won't get spooked again? Barclays may be good for some people, but not for all. Time to give your business to lenders that work with your style.

Thanks. Yeah I have no intention of trying to get the accounts reinstated.

Re: Barclays adverse action

Yep, I shut down my Ring and Cashforward last year. Because I was going to continue to cheat on them. If I didn't AA them, they would have AA'd me. But I got them first. And when they asked me why I was closing the accounts, I told them just that.

It doesn't matter whom you are or how invincible you think you are, Barclay will eventually sprew it's Venom on you, especially if you cheat....

Southie, I'm certain you are not surprised. In fact, most likely in the back of your head, you were just waiting for your number to come up.

Re: Barclays adverse action

Sorry to hear.   I would not be surprised if I am next as I frequently use their BT offers  on all of my Barclays accounts, I have my accounts set up with autopay but somehow on these accounts every once in a while the autopay falls out and I get hit with a late fee. (less than 30 days) Autopay works great with all other lenders but Barclays is for me a hit and miss. So my payment record is not the best with them. Smiley Sad Just did another BT which I figured they might deny but to my surprise they accepted even though there was a late payment the cycle before on that account. The only reason why I would miss Barclays is for the best BT offers but I could also live without BTs as I only do it if I get the 1% offers.

Re: Barclays adverse action

Ring make all my rewards cards 9% APR.
Since i acquired it three years ago, i only did ONE purchase (to activate PIN) and around 100 BT, no AA.
I don't cheat much tho. 2/24 0/12.

Re: Barclays adverse action

Excuse me for I have sinned ... openned two new accounts and closed my Barclays Commence MasterCard as it was totally useless to me. Still have the old form of the Barclay Ring but will likely close that card later this year as I have other sources of lower Aprs and can get rewards to boot. Truth ... I don't trust Barclays and would rather just slip into the darkness as "account closed by the consumer" in the credit bureau. Barclays was good to me on credit limits but if the account gets closed it is a whole 'nother story so goodbye Smiley Happy

Yeah, I think that's a good idea. I try to use my card every month (approximately $75–750 on a $5,000 limit), more or less pay as I go, and let the card cut a positive statement balance every few months. The fact that it's an LL Bean card and that maybe 2/3 of my statements have an LL Bean purchase or two probably doesn't hurt.

I did a pretty lousy job of staying off their radar a few weeks ago, though. I set up Apple Pay on two devices. My watch needed to be set up twice because I had to reset it to factory defaults due to an AT&T goof-up. So the initial setup required maybe two phone calls.

Two days later, I received e-mails saying I needed to call in because of suspected suspicious activity, and if I didn't, my account could possibly be suspended. This would have been related to setting up Apple Pay. So I called in. The rep said I was fine, stating that Barclays' computer can get wonky. I immediately remembered everything I've read here and thought, "no kidding!" About a week later, I received snail-mail versions of the e-mails, called again, and the rep said everything was fine.

About a week after that, I noticed an unusual $1.00 temporary authorization from Amazon. I had just gotten off the phone with Amazon about a refund, and chances are that the rep tried to issue the refund to the wrong card. Not wanting to take chances, when the Barclays rep offered to replace the card, I said, "yeah, let's do it."

When the new card arrived, it was a rinse and repeat of the Apple Pay setup. This time, I called in right away and had a rep handle the setup for both devices. And two days later, I got the "suspicious activity" e-mails and called in again.

I've since removed all but my Chase Amazon card from my Amazon account, and all has been quiet with Barclays since then. I hope it stays that way.

Re: Barclays adverse action

I’ve had nothing but good luck with Barclays it seems. I ran $20k+ through my Wyndham card I got in 2016 last year. I’ve had three interest rate reductions, the last down to 12.99% and then was able to get a second Wyndham card last year. Previously has the Aviator card as well.

I guess they like me or my spend and pay patterns. I have paid like less than $5 in interest on either card.
