Benefits to Costco Visa

We have been executive members of Costco for about 2 years.  We shop there weekly, averaging around $150 per week.  We just the other day ordered a fridge online from them, and afterwards, it occured to me, should we have appied for their Visa and bought the fridge with that? What other benefits does the Costco Visa offer?  Positives to them? Negative?

Re: Benefits to Costco Visa

The card gives 2% more on top of the 2% you get with executive membership on Costco purchases, 4% on gas (anywhere), 3% on dinning and 1% for everything else. It's also a Visa Signature so it come with your standard VS benefits. BTW, you could have used any Visa card for the refrigerator purchase at Costco and get your rewards that way (2% if you have one).

Not always VS...but the benefits from Citi are the ones that matter.

Pros:

Good extended warranty

Price protection

Good rewards for people who like cash back

No FTF and Contactless, making it a decent travel card (among no-AF cards)

Cons:

Citi's poor customer service for general calls (but the benefits specialists are good)

No way to convert rewards to frequent flyer miles

No bonus for getting the card (I PCed to get one after a year with an AA Platinum)

Not applicable for me or OP as we'd be members, anyway...but a Costco membership is required

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

Re: Benefits to Costco Visa

For certain purchases at Costco, they have some special offers. Sometimes, when you buy certain products and use their card, they extend the warranty longer than the typical already extended warranty.
If you purchase tires, they waive certain fees or offer some extras that you don't get using a different Visa card.
I can't think of anything else right now, but since Citi took over the card, I noticed an increase in offers and benefits.

Re: Benefits to Costco Visa

In addition to Oldman's great info, you can register your large purchases for price reductions.

You register the item and if the price goes down, within 6 months, they automatically credit the difference,

Extended warranty is also a great bonus- My tv warranty went from 3 years to 7 paying with the Costco Visa.

I lost my membership card and was able to use my Visa in it's place.. That reminds me, I still haven't stood in line for my new card lol, oops.

ETA: Wow fast replies lol, I'm going to the slow typist corner.. Smiley Tongue lol

They sometimes give Costco Cash cards as a bonus for using your Costco Visa for specific items.

Re: Benefits to Costco Visa

Thanks for all the great advice! Since we bought the Fridge on Saturday and it hasn't even shipped yet, would it be worthwhile to apply and see if we can "return it and rebuy it" with the card?

Yeah, the offers usually appear when I'm not in the market for those products, haha.

When I saw a tire promo, I think they were waiving the installation/balancing fees if you paid with the Costco Visa, aside from the $70 discount.

I think I've seen some exclusive offers for travel too, plus it's a great thing they removed the FT fee.
