Best Buy store card

Hi! I decided to buy a lap top during black friday of 07 because hp had an amazing deal and it was much needed for school. I opened up a Best Buy store card (not to get confused with the Best Buy Rewards Zone Mastercard) and was given a generous $3500 CL. They even give you 18 months to pay until interest kicks in.

Currently I have a $300 balance left. I'm thinking about paying it all off within the next month. Now, what do I do with this store card? Should I close it, now that I have no use for it? Don't store cards look bad to begin with?

My friend recently tried to buy a lap top as well. He was denied for the store card but they approved him for the Rewards Zone MC. Pretty weird, huh?

Keep the card.  It has a decent credit line attached to it.

Re: Best Buy store card

I was denied the best buy card about 14 months ago, then they sent me a pre-approved "reward" zone master card invitation. As to your situation, I would keep the account open. Buy a dvd or 2 every month, spindle of blank cd/dvd. pif or carry a small (8%) balance. Just my 2 cents from what I have read here.

Re: Best Buy store card

the one thing I noticed with Best Buy store card is they close it quickly with inactivity. I bought a tv. Did the whole 6 months same as cash. 10% off to new applicants thing. Paid the card off lilke clockwork in 6 months after purchase. It was closed out after 1 year of inactivity.

Agree with all the above. Keep it open, but think about picking up a DVD with it every other month or so.

I don't know what your total CL is, but most of us would miss the contribution to our total CL's if a $3500 card went poof. That's pretty much the reason why I'm delaying killing off my BB store card, as much as I would like to simplify.
