You can buy groceries in places other than supermarkets, like discount stores and wholesale clubs. Those don't count for the Amex bonus. Only supermarket purchases do.
In large, urban cities there are many small grocery stores and mini-"supermarkets". Those don't count for Amex Blue.
The reason I brought this point up is that so many other cards have the "groceries" category for the larger bonus, which doesn't differentiate between supermarkets and corner delis.
