Best Credit Card Companies to be a Client of?

I belong to capital one and I have no complaints with Capital One. However, Capital One's interest fees are on the high side of the interest scale, the interest is not horrible but for example: a car loan is about 4% annually and they only allow you to purchase a car from a place like carmax. I want a company that I can establish history with so that I can borrow money for a car and buy the car from whoever I want. I know I can get a loan from anywhere, but I want to know what banks you think are the best and what credit card companies are the best. What kind of benefits do you get from your cards and banks?

I don't think it's feasible to solve both with the same lender.  Different lenders have different strengths, and having more options is never a bad thing: when banks compete, you win!  Or whatever that advertising tagline is.

For example, CU's often are terrific on auto loans, and sometimes godlike on mortgages too, but most of their credit card rewards are not competitive... though occasionally their APR's are low enough that they're fantastic balance carrying cards, but personally I don't ever see the need for more than one of those, YMMV.

On the credit card side, the big 4 are typically the best bets depending on your spending pattern and desires: Amex, Chase, Citi, BOFA; however, there are situational cards like Cash+, Sallie Mae, Care Credit, JCB Makurai, Fidelity Amex, etc, which may be better for you as an individual than anything else.  Getting an auto loan from them sometimes is a non-starter if you're a mixed file.

My personal strategy was to establish relationships with Amex and Chase since their cards typically track to my own spending, and then picked up a few CU's (DCU, Penfed, SDFCU) for nearly everything else, though in some cases Penfed has solid rewards CC, and SDFCU is arguably the best foreign travel card I can get perhaps even now, and their secured product is head and shoulders above everything else if you travel internationally and can't qualify for one of the premier travel cards.

Figure out which lenders make sense for you, then proceed to wrap your arms around them is my suggestion.

Credit cards from major banks are usually pretty decent, especially cards like Discover, AMEX, some Chase cards, BoA 123 Cash Rewards, etc., but you'll get the best rates on loans from credit unions since they are not-for-profit. Your best strategy is to get the credit cards that offer the best rewards and/or interest rates for your needs and also establish membership in a CU for future loans or for superior savings. That's what I did and it has worked out really well.

And the best rates on interest checking usually come from internet banks rather than CUs or big banks.  For now though, great (well relative to the market!) savings rates come from the internet banks of Barclays (0.9%) and Amex (0.85%)

I find the best rates when I have separate institutions for checking, savings, credit cards and mortgage.

Barclays is great for me since the Arrival card allows me to collect a lot of miles, plus Barclays is now offering free TU FICO updates. NFCU has been great to me since they have offered a large credit line and I frequently use their 0% BT promotions that are offered at least once a year.
EX:694 TU:744 EQ:777
Amex ED $19.5k - BoA Travel Rewards $15k - CSP $5k - SDFCU EMV $15k - NFCU goRewards $20k - Barclays Arrival $6.5k

For me it is also Barclays. Great rewards and nice BT offers. BofA is my lowest APR 9,99% and I also get constant 0% APR offers with promo BT fees...so far I never used it as I prefer to PIF but it is nice to have Smiley Happy
