Best gas card out there?

Hello everyone.

I do a lot driving as part of my job and i would certainly benefit from a card that gives high percentage of cash back on gas station purchases. I have heard about sam's club. but i dont want to be a member because it has member ship fee. i dont know if sallie mae still exists but i doubt i will get it because of barclays being inquiry sensitive and i have a bunch of inquiries (6 months old though) . I like Aarp card becuase it gives 3 % cash back on gas . discover has 5% sometimes and i made good money when that was running but right now 5% is on amazon and home improvement. please let me know if there is any other CC thats great for rewards for gas purchases . Thanks!

A good gas card that comes to mind is the Amex Blue Cash Preferred which gives 3% cash back on gas, have you checked the Amex prequals?

The most mentioned unrestricted gas cards for heavy users are the Penfed Cash Rewards and Fort Knox. With the Penfed card, you need a small additional account (some people have found a $25 money market account is sufficient) and then the card earns 5% at the pump (all the time) and rewards are automatically credited as statement balances (Don't confuse this with the Penfed Platinum Rewards, which gives 5 POINTS on gas, but points are less than 1c)

Fort Knox also have a 5% year round gas card, but there may be geographical restrictions as to who can become a member

I know you mentioned with Sams Club that your prefer to not have an AF or membership fee, but I would recommend the Costco Anywhere Visa. The card itself does not have an anual fee but it requires a yearly Costco membership. It gets 4% cash back on gas up to $7,000 per year. 1% after that. Also it gets 3% at restaurants and eligible travel purchases.

California gas stations that take credit cards puff up the price per gallon so you are paying more, despite even 5% off or $0.08 a gallon or whatever they try to hook you in with. Sinclair and Valero pretty in line with Arco cash gas stations, that would be the only dedicated gas cards I would recommend. If you have BP in your area the rewards are pretty awesome as they add up, if you are approved for a Visa everyday purchases will give you more fuel discount.

As stated above… my personal plan of attack is to buy Arco gift cards in the supermarket so I pay the cash price first of all and second of all I get double points with an American Express, or 1.5% off with Quicksilver, Chase was pretty awesome two months ago when they had 5% off with my freedom at supermarket.

If the AARP is 3% supermarket you can just hold the line and do the gift card route it takes a little extra planning but it works out. once you're used to it you always have gas gift card in your wallet or in your console ready to go. If you don't have a truck and need one I think a $25 fuel gift card gets a whole day's work out of even a bad friend lol

I believe BOFA cash rewards is 3% back on Gas up to $1500 quarterly.
