You can always get a Visa, MC or Discover card...but eventually you would want an Amex in your wallet. It took me a while but I apped for my 1st Amex in 2011. I have use Amex alot more than my other cards or anywhere that would accept an Amex.

I think the OP's question was about why is this true: "you would want an Amex in your wallet". So do you use yours more because of better rewards, higher CL, better protection?
Personally, I use mine, a BCP, in the same way as other cards, when it maximizes the rewards for that purchase. So I use it for the first $6K spend at groceries in a year, then SD it till next year. Probably my fifth or sixth most used card, way behind my top two.

1, 3, 5 are definitely true, although you can find 2, 4 and 6 in non-Amex products as well.
I think Amex is (to an extent) living off of it's repuation. While it's still a good/solid lender, the majority of the general population believe it to be more exclusive than it really is. There is a definite disconnect between perception and reality among many.

Hi CreditScholar
I would agree with living off a reputation and the general population has no clue it's not as hard to get as one would think ....Thank you My Fico because we know better Lol
