I got my BofA secured card a hair over a year ago, and was able to add Cash Rewards to it almost right away. (I'm at $20.39, so I haven't really used the card that much.) It graduated about 6 months ago (I can't remember if it was 5 or 6 months old when it graduated). The secured limit was $300, and was bumped to $800 at graduation. It is one of my lowest limit cards.
I went online tonight to try to Chat for a lower APR and to remove the annual fee of $39. I got a notice that they were going to be charging the annual fee on the June statement.
The chat agent stated that the card would "always" have an annual fee, and that the APR (20.x%) was the lowest it could go. This means it is still under the "secured card" rules, even thought it graduated and is a Cash Rewards card. I had hoped when it graduated that would have changed.
I don't feel like fighting them, so if the CLI request I submitted tonight comes up a denial, I will probably just shut it down. An $800 limit is not worth the $39 annual fee, and I have better rewards on half a dozen cards.
Do you have another Bank of America card? If so transfer the credit line from this one. I did something similiar with my starter card. It was not going anywhere so I transferred the credit line and closed the card.
This means that your card has not been FULLY converted over. You have to call in and tell that you are being charged an annual fee and for them to fully convert the carf over to an unsecure.
I did chat, email and call several times. My last call to back door number got my AF removed.
DW on first call she got APR reduction and AF removed.
Good luck.
