Bread Cashback AMEX Credit Card

On the heals of Bread Financial's new name (btw parent company of Comenity)

They have just announced a new Card ...and not the typical Comenity store card but rather one that seemingly has strong partnership with AMEX (and obviously on the AMEX network)

Interesting to me, Comenity has not impressed me much, but AMEX sure has ....I find this tango interesting.

The card is simple/strong on benefits. (unlimited 2%, no annual or foreign fees)

I won't be applying but was curious if the app process indeed would go through Bread/Comenity ....and YES it does ....from this AMEX website on the card you are directed to Bread/Comenity if you wish to apply.

Not for me, but this is not a bad card and IMO fits a wide audience.   Better than some of my cards.

Re: Bread/AMEX Credit Card

I also came cross this new Bread cash back Amex co branded card and check out the application. The applicationis asking for the last 4 of your ssn, does this mean they are doing soft pull to see if you are pre approved did not go any futher. wondering what kind of credit limits they are giving out and what kind of credit needed to get approved for this product. I am little neverous about this card because who is bancking this creditcard.

Re: Bread/AMEX Credit Card

Given that they're looking to distinguish the card by directly associating it with Bread Financial I wonder if they will be less conservative with credit limits than has been their norm with bank cards like the Comenity Mastercard or Caesars Rewards Visa.

It's been a few years now since the Comenity SCT has been truly reliable and that includes applications that only request the last 4 digits of the SSN, so your caution is warranted.

Seemingly, the simple info they want at first (lasf 4 of ss) is to identify if you are a current Comenity card holder ...in which case they pre-populate much of the final application form for you.    Fine prints infers that they'll do a hard pull, but I'll let others test for certainty.

I also am curious if having an existing Comenity card plays into the process (perhaps effecting if a hard pull is certain) as well as if they entertain product changes.   Finally, I'd assume if you have an existing Comenity card, perhaps they'd take a portion of current credit line for the new card(?).   Lots of questions we'll likeliy find andswers to ...but it won't be me testing the waters!

Comenity does not product change except that they have in the past reissued Comenity branded bank cards when an existing co-branded card was discontinued.   They do not reallocate credit limits either.

Very interesting for sure and thanks for sharing.

They were in the works (ADS/Comenity/CBB) of introducing a new product in 2022 and I suppose this was the one. What is also interesting, this will be the first time that Comenity/CBB will issue an American Express partner CC. As far as network CC's, they've always had the usual array of V/MC and even Discover (until the latter partner program was discontinued in early 2020).

What I would be curious about, for those who currently have a mix of Comenity/CBB store, V/MC cards, whether applying for this particular one would result in closures of the others just like Comenity/CBB has done in the past citing inquiries/new accounts (secondary audit review). In other words, I'm wondering whether the origination platform has been updated with this newer product to decline an application from the get-go, or approve it and then later rescind the account and close any other Comenity/CBB existing accounts. Imma hafta make a couple calls 😂

Re: Bread/AMEX Credit Card

Well, since I had nothing to lose, I applied for the card using the link in OP's post.  I'd had the Williams-Sonoma VISA before it went to CapOne, so it populated my info after entering the fields above.  Hit Submit, it spun and spun, then said there was a technical error and the app wasn't submitted (try again later).  I was OK with that, but five minutes later, got an alert from EX. Logged in and sure enough, inquiry from Bread.

I did a Google search on my laptop (I'd applied on my phone) and found the customer service number. It asked for the last four of my SSN, then said my balance was $0, available credit $8500.  So, approved?  No email yet. I'll wait and see if a card actually shows up.

EX FICO 755, 15 INQ total, probably half that in the past year.

FICO 8 scores Nov/Jan 2021: EQ 779/751, TU 750/770, EX 763/746 Fully recovered from 5-year Ch13 discharged July 2018.
Last recorded: FNBO Evergreen and PSECU Founder's Card Dec 2021. Seriously out of date, at least 10 more since then.

Groovy!, you're the first to say it out-loud.   Sounds like an approval to me ...keep us posted on how it all goes!

..and I'll be very curious what kind of AMEX perks/offers you get.   This AMEX partnership is a big step for Comenity IMO.
