I have had my Chase Freedom credit card for 4 months now and literally the only things I have purchased was gasoline, restaurants, and recently a $50 gift card from Best Buy. I called Chase after receiving an alert about my account being terminated and the representative explained the account was being closed due to "an approximate amount of $50.00 at Best Buy, which is an abuse of our terms and conditions as users are abusing the rewards program"
I have a credit score of 710 from Equifax and have not had any inquiries or new accounts since 4 months.

Sorry to hear that, others are reporting similar shut downs. Do you recall what specifically you bought at Best Buy?
Edit: Gift card. Are you still trying to make a minimum spend for a bonus earning?
This has to be a joke.. I really hope it is.
Wow, Chase... Good going AGAIN.
It's actually making me quite scared a little bit to app for the Freedom next year.. And as a store associate at Best Buy, we've had a lot of people purchase $25, $50, even $100 gift cards on their Chase Freedom..... Maybe I should start alerting all the cardholders I see before they swipe, lol.
Unfortunately, this is not a joke. I'm beyond p*ssed at the moment that I'm contemplating on closing my checking & savings account with them as we speak.
That isn't against the T&C's or at least I don't believe it is.. As stated in another thread on there website they were promoting buying Amazon GC's to get 5% back for the quarter.

Now something is definately up/going on at chase. How did they know the transaction at best buy was a gift card? It is the holiday season and maybe it was a present to someone? That is just ridiculous for closing the card.
Interesting article I just ran across...

Wow.. I am on darius's site reading the same thing (million miles secret). Something is definately going on at chase.
Precisely. They must have taken a hard hit with some rewards abuse here recently. To cancel someones credit card (especially a loyal customer like our OP with the checking & savings account with the company) because of a $50 gift card purchase is purely despicable.
