Hello!
I am converting my Platinum Citi Card to a Costco Anywhere Visa.
I am currently an AU for my aunt's Citi Costco. We live together. I love Costco and plan to shop during black friday and the holidays.
I called Citi and inquired about the conversion and I was allowed to d oso, but I was told I coud only have one costco membership tied to an account (whether as an AU of my aunt's or for my own).
I weas told also it takes 2 months for the conversion to ccur. And given that I am doing a lot of Holiday Shopping at costco,
I just decided that I will remain as an AU on my Aunt's costco citi card since I can't wait two months. Is this a good idea?
Also, is there any way where I can still keep my membership that is tied to my aunt's when I do get my own Citi Costco (incase I need to buy for her things). I'm just worried if there will be issues with conversion if they see my membership is tied to my aunt's Citi costco card...
I am stuck in this predicament wheater I wait or not. I will be making lots of purchases and would rather have it impact my credit score than my aunt's since I am good at paying on time.
Thanks!
You could go to Costco and get your own membership now to start the process. If your Platinum Citi Card is a Visa you could start your cash back now with an Executive Membership. If you get the Executive membership (2% cash back) then add the Citi Costco Card (2% cash back) you'll get 4% back on purchases at Costco and Costco.com in addition to the other great features. I primarily use my Citi Costco card at Costco and still manage to get enough money back to cover the membership fee.
I dont know about the AU part and the cross memebership. You could always just pick up something for your Aunt under your new membership.
Good Luck!
I'm not very familiar with the rules of Costco's additional household member, or Citi AUs, so I hesitate to give advice.
When I PCed AA Platinum to Costco in 2017, Citi took ~50 days to ship me the Costco Visa. I had been an existing Costco member and gave them my membership number when I requested the PC (I did nothing to cause any particular delay). Sometimes Citi can be faster, but other times Citi can definitely take ~2 months to convert an account and ship the new card.
I think what Citi meant was one Costco membership number = one Citi Costco account (either as an AU or a primary account holder).
So if you are currently on your Aunt's Costco membership account as a household member and on her Citi Costco Visa as an AU, then that particular membership number is tied to that AU account and you can't reuse it to apply or qualify for a separate second Citi Costco Visa.
So what Citi will likely have to do is close down your AU and then tie your current Costco membership number to a new Citi Costco Visa that you'll be PCing your Platinum Visa to.
So my guess is that nothing will change on the Costco membership side of things, you can continue to be a household cardholder under your Aunt's membership. You'll just need to associate your member number to a new Citi account.
